Arcade Fire "We used to Wait" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

Arcade Fire are a great Canadian band founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Win Butler and Régine Chassagne.

Although I do really like the band, most of their songs I've heard don't really lend themselves to being played by early learners, either on acoustic or electric guitar.

I have previously posted "Wake Up" from the debut album "Funeral". Ironically it was highlighted to me by my nephew using it as the backdrop for a brilliant video montage he made of my eldest daughter's wedding in 2009. Excuse the paternal pride, but I'd be delighted if you'd like to check that one out, it's on Youtube at Nycola & Marc's wedding - Arcade Fire "Wake Up"

The chords and lyrics for both Wake Up and We Used to Wait are on my Miscellaneous Rock songs page at Rock songs guitar chords - W

"We used to wait" is another great song, the first single from the 2010 "Suburbs" album".

The song is in the key of C minor, but I have transposed it to A minor to create a set of chords which will be more suitable for the learning guitarist, or indeed for anyone playing the song. After transposition, the chords are: Am, C/G, F, D5 and Em. the C/G chord is just a C chord with the addition of the pinky on the 3rd fret, 1st string, i.e. 032013. D5 is a "Power Chord" and is played as x355xx. If you are in the early learning stages, you can just play standard C and D chords here, it will still sound fine.

To play along with the original, put a capo on the 3rd fret, and you will be playing in the same key as the original song.

My 'easy-to-play' interpretation of "We Used to Wait (for it)" is at Guitar Chords for Arcade Fire "We used to wait" .

Plan B "She Said" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

I really never thought this day would arrive. I'm transcribing a song which features a hip-hop interlude. Regular readers of this blog ( now picking themselves up from the floor and reaching for the smelling salts ) will know that I am very much *not* a fan of hip-hop - particularly when it spoils a perfectly good song, usually a nice soul ballad with a female vocal.

To be honest, when I first heard Plan B's "She Said" this was exactly what I thought I was hearing. Then I saw the band perform on a TV show, and was amazed that both the silky soulful voice and the "Brit-hip-hop" spoken part were being performed by the same guy - Ben Drew.

Anywaze, the song grew on me - even the rap didn't grate so much, so I've decided it's worth including on my website. "She said" is the second single from "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", a concept album about a British soul singer who finds fame, but ends up in prison for a crime he didn't commit, as portrayed in the video for the song ( below ).

I decided the best location for my chords and lyrics version of the songs was on my Soul, R&B song chords page - you can check it out at the link below:

Mumford and Sons "The Cave" Guitar chords and lyrics

This is the second song I've worked out from the recent and brilliant "Sigh no More" album by London's "indie/folk/rock" band Mumford and Sons.

"The Cave" is the 3rd single from the album, and (so far) my favourite song, with the deceptively quiet folksy opening building up to raucous anthemic choruses.

Once again, it's quite an easy song to play. I've tabbed the little riff around the D chord from the intro and at the start of each verse ( indicated as D* in the song transcription ). Other than that it is basically D, Bm, A and G chords covering the verses and the chorus.

I have worked out my version of the chords and lyrics for "The Cave" and added them to my Rock Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

Chords and Lyrics - Two Door Cinema Club "Something Good can work"

Just heard this song on the radio, although I gather the single has been around for a while. Hadn't heard of the band either, I have to confess - they're from Bangor in Northern Ireland. Their debut album "Tourist History", from which "Something Good Can Happen" is taken, was released in Europe earlier this year, and will shortly be released in the USA. I've just had a few listens, but it's really good, bright pop-rock, I hope to work out a few more of their songs soon.

Although there is fairly electronic mix on the single, it translates really well to guitar, chords are very straightforward - C, G, Am, Em and F - getting the rapid-fire lyrics to synchronize with your guitar playing is the tricky bit!

I have worked a playable version of "Something Good can Happen" and uploaded it to my Rock Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

Foo Fighters "Wheels" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

The Foo Fighters seem to have been around forever! Actually, their first album "Foo Fighters" was released in 1995.

They recently released their "Greatest Hits" album, and as you listen to the songs again it's easy to see why they are one of the most respected and influential bands on the planet.

I already had ten chords & lyrics versions of their songs on my Foo Fighters guitar songs page, so I've now worked out my version of a previously unreleased track "Wheels" which was included on the new Greatest Hits album, you can check out the chords and lyrics at the link below. Only 4 chords repeated throughout - Dsus2, A, F#5 and E. If you're a learning guitarist and think these chords look too hard, well Dsus2 is just the D major chord with the first string open, and the F#5 can be played as just an F# major chord, with or without the barre.

Listen to the video (above) or on YouTube - Wheels

There is a whole bunch of great stuff for FF fans on the Foo Fighters official website

REM - Supernatural Superserious chords and Lyrics

REM released "Accelerate", their 14th studio album, earlier this year. After the general disappointment of fans with its predecessor "Around the Sun", "Accelerate" marks a return to a more guitar-based sound. Which suits me just fine!

REM - Guitar Chords for 'Supernatural Superserious', the first single from the album is definitely reminiscent of earlier albums, I think it sounds as if it could have been on 'Monster'.

My chords and lyrics version of the song, suitable for either electric or acoustic guitar players is now on my chords and lyrics website, strangely enough, on the REM song chords page! I have quite a few of their songs, scroll down about halfway down the page. Check it out at the link below:

Scissor Sisters - I don't feel like Dancing

Whatever it is about the Scissor Sisters, it's always hard to find anyone who admits they might be cool, but everytime they release a single, it's the most requested song I get!!

Took me a while to exorcise the whole ghost of the 'Bee Gees' that haunts the new one, but, in the end, it's just a good-time song you can have a lot of fun playing on guitar, so I've posted it to my 'Pop Songs' page:

http://www.guitarsongs.info/pop.htm#Is

Find out more about the band on their website: http://www.scissorsisters.com/

My 10 Million Visitor competition is now over - to see if you've won, check out the winners page:

There are a lot of guitar lessons sites and programs out there, but I've discovered a really great resource for the 'Beginner' to 'Intermediate' guitar player, which doesn't assume any previous musical knowledge or skills, but takes you through all of the early stages of the learning process, and brings you along at a pace that traditional guitar lessons could never match.

Christy Moore - The Pretender

I have quite a few Christy Moore songs on my Guitar Chords website, but recently received a request for a song of his I hadn't heard yet - The Contender. Found a friend who had a copy of Christy's 'This is the Day' album containing the song ( great album! ), and managed to work it out from a few hearings. I've posted it to my Christy Moore songs page at the link below:

Weezer - Freak Me Out

Again, to try to maintain a balance of old and new songs as I update the site, I've reached back, - this time just back to 2005 for a great song by one of the most prolific bands of the past fifteen years. I remember when Windows 95 was first released, and multimedia was born, the big talking point was the inclusion of a video of Weezer's "Buddy Holly" on the "W95 installation CD.

12 years, 25 albums and 22 singles on, they are still one of my favourite 'feelgood bands'. So I've worked out my interpretation of "Freak Me Out", from the "Make Believe" album. You can check it out on my Weezer guitar chords page.

How Wonderful You Are - Gordon Haskell

BBC2's 'Top of the Pops 2' is a great resource for reminders of great songs from previous years which I'd neglected to include on the website - watching tonight I heard Gordon Gaskell's "How wonderful you are" - one of those 'out of the blue' hits in 2001.

I sat down and worked out a playable version of the song, lovely bluesy chords and a great melody. A bit stumped as to which of my site pages to include it on - as the former singer and Bass player with the great King Crimson, you'd expect to add his songs to the Rock song chords page - I eventually settled on my Soul/Rhythm&Blues page: http://www.guitarsongs.info/soulrnb.htm at the link below:

If you're asking "Who the hell is Gordon Haskell", well, just checkout Gordon's official website - http://www.gordonhaskell.com/ If you can't remember the song ( or never heard it ) it's on his MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/gordonhaskell

Just posted the chords and lyrics to Scotland's finest - The Fratellis - new song 'Whistle for the Choir, from the debut album 'Costello Music', having watched them play it on Jonathan Ross last Friday night. Haven't had a chance to listen to much of their stuff yet, but what I've heard, I've really liked.
