Denmark's finest, 'Mew' are what I suppose would be classified as an 'Indie Rock' band, making what one critic called 'dreamy thunderstorm pop'
As one of my daughter's favourite bands, I've been under a little pressure to try working out chord versions of some of their songs, which to be honest is not easy. I had previously worked out and posted 'Pop song chords - She came home for Christmas', which ( I have been reminded ) was in the charts for Christmas 2003. I have had "Symmetry", which also appeared on the 2003 album "Frengers", on my "to-do" list since then also, so decided to finally tackle it as part of my May selection of songs.
I had been previously put off by finding some fairly badly transcribed 'Tab' versions of the song, and trying to work out chord versions from these. This time I just listened to the song, figured that the first chord was B flat major 7th... stuck a capo on the 1st fret and ended up with a very nice, and quite playable chord sequence - a Gmaj7 Dmaj7 riff for the verses, with D, E, Bm, A and G thrown in for the Bridge and Chorus.
According to Wikipedia, "Symmetry" features vocals from 14 year old Becky Jarrett of Georgia, USA.
I've posted the chords and lyrics for "Symmetry" to my Pop Guitar Songs page at the link below:
