REM - Supernatural Superserious chords and Lyrics

REM released "Accelerate", their 14th studio album, earlier this year. After the general disappointment of fans with its predecessor "Around the Sun", "Accelerate" marks a return to a more guitar-based sound. Which suits me just fine!

'Supernatural Superserious', the first single from the album is definitely reminiscent of earlier albums, I think it sounds as if it could have been on 'Monster'.

Regina Spektor - Samson chords and lyrics

I had previously worked out and posted chords and lyrics to "Hotel Room" from "Begin to Hope", the fourth album by New-York-based, Moscow-born Regina Spektor. I had always intended that I would work on some of the other songs from this album, but am amazed to discover that the "Hotel Room" post was in May 2007!

So - I've decided to rectify the omission, and have worked out my basic chords and lyrics version of "Samson", another great song from the album. The song is now included on my Miscellaneous Pop Guitar Songs page, which now as 221 songs. The website ( PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics ) has chords and lyrics to 1,710 songs )

The song is in the key of B major - I have transcribed it to A major to make the chords a bit more playable for learning guitarists ( you can still play along with the CD by putting a capo on the 2nd fret ) - but I've included the version in B for the purists! Badfinger - Come and get it chords and lyrics

I've often been listening to radio, or watching TV and a great old 70s song from my .. em.. infancy... comes on, and I think 'That's a brilliant guitar song, nice chord sequence, not too tricky, good melody' But I end up not working it out for inclusion on my guitar chords Website or this Blog on the basis that most of the guitar community are just too young to know the song.

This situation arose recently watching "Top of the Pops 2" when Badfinger appeared, playing "Come and Get It", a really nice pop/rock song, with a great melody, and mostly straightforward chords, with one or two challenging ones for the early learning guitarist.

So I figured that while there will be people going 'What-finger? - who???', that in the age of YouTube and Wikipedia there are no excuses for anyone not being able to listen to a song, or find out about an artist - I'll post it, and encourage people to have a listen and maybe learn a little about the band. They were actually mentored by none other than The Beatles ( particularly George, if memory serves ), and for a while were touted as the next BIG band from the Apple label.

Unfortunately tragedy overtook two of the band members, and the band never realised it's potential. But they have left us with some great tracks, and I'm happy to have worked out chords and lyrics to 'Come and Get it', which I've posted on my Pop guitar songs page, at the link below:

Cystic Fibrosis - help if you can

This is an appeal to maybe anyone who has visited my free guitar chords website and found songs they've enjoyed playing on guitar, or to any of my friends who know someone affected by CF. Having spent most of my adult life among musicians, I know they are the most generous, caring and compassionate group of people on the planet.

One of my daughters great friends, Tracie Lawlor, herself a really talented musician, sadly passed away recently from this life-threatening and life-shortening disease. The Republic of Ireland has the highest proportion of Cystic Fibrosis in the world, yet of all of the developed countries ( USA, Britain, France, etc. ) life expectancy is about nine years lower than the others. In Northern Ireland, for example, CF sufferers average life expectancy is in the early Thirties, compared with early Twenties in the Republic of Ireland. This is because of the lack of suitable facilities provided by the Irish Government for CF patients.

A fund has been created in Tracie's memory, with the aim of helping CF sufferers in her home town ( and mine ) of Wexford, Ireland. It would mean a lot to me if you would consider making a donation, however small. All money received to the fund is channeled directly to the aid of CF sufferrers.

Kooks 'Always where I need to be' chords

Always a bit of a nailbiter when a band you like are about to release their second Album.

I loved 'Inside In/Inside Out', the million-selling debut album by Brighton Brit-Pop-Punk-Rock band, "The Kooks", particularly "Naive" and "She Moves in her own Way". I wouldn't be quite as bowled over as I am by The Fratellis ( nervously awaiting their second offering...! ), but a great band nonetheless, and "Konk", their second album, is growing on me with every listen.

'Always where I need to be'', is the new single from "Konk", and it continues in the quirky, rocky vein of it's predecessors.

I've worked out a playable version of the song, which should be suitable for either electric or acoustic guitar and, as I already had 3 Kooks songs on my guitar chords and lyrics website, I've now created a new 'Kooks' page, at the link below:

Galway Girl - chords and lyrics

Still spending much time listening to the older songs in my collection. I remember my daughter buying me the single of Steve Earle and Sharon Shannon performing Steve's "Galway Girl" as if it was yesterday - Wikipedia tells me it was from Steve's "Transcendental Blues" and Sharon (+friends)"The Diamond Mountain Session" albums - both realeased in 2000! Unbelievable!

What's even harder to believe is that I didn't put the song up on my guitar chords site at the time, it's a great song. Anyway, eight years on, and Sharon has recently recorded the song again, this time with Mundy, so I am making good the omission, and have added the song to my Folk songs guitar chords page, at the link below:

Tori Amos - "Winter" chords and lyrics

I've been in very reflective mode lately, listening to a lot of the older stuff in my CD collection. One artist who I have shamefully neglected, not having posted any of her songs on my guitar chords and lyrics website, is Tori Amos. Tori is widely acclaimed as having single-handedly kick-started the whole female singer-songwriter genre in the early 90's.

The Frames - Neath the Beeches chords & lyrics

Since posting Glen Hansard's "Falling Slowly" last month, I've been listening to some of the Frames older stuff quite a lot. I'd almost forgotten what a great band they are, and what a fabulous voice Glen has.

One of the 'oldies' that shows off the talents better than most is "Neath the Beeches", a haunting song from their 1999 album "Dance the Devil". I already have "Star, Star" from this album on my Rock Songs page - hard to believe it's 9 years ago!

Futureheads - Beginning of the Twist

The latest song from Sunderland's post-Punk finest, Futurehead, has been banging around in my head for the past number of weeks, so I finally got down to working out a playable version.

While 'Beginning of the Twist', their new single from the upcoming "This is not the World" is not quite up there with "Hounds of Love" and "Decent Days and Nights" for me, it's still a great song to listen to, and even more so to play along with.

Lifehouse - You and Me chords

I'm really just cathing up with Lifehouse - hadn't really listened to any of their stuff since "Hanging in a Moment" back in 2001. Just started listening to "Who We Are", and hopefully will work out a song or two from that album presently.

That's how people grow up - Morrissey

"That's how people grow up" is the fantastic single ( and the only new song ). from the "Greatest Hits" album of one Stephen Patrick Morrissey, aka Morrissey, aka 'Mozza'.

Having set the 80's alight with The Smiths, he continues to create pithy lyrics and haunting melodies; while there is a continuity with his early works, his newer songs still sound current.

Glen Hansard - Falling Slowly chords and lyrics

In February, "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard ( of Frames fame ) and Marketa Irglova won an Academy Award for "Best Original Song" ( From the film "Once" ). The Frames are one of the most underrated bands on the planet, and Glen ( who appeared as 'Outspan' in 1991's "The Committments" ), is thoroughly deserving of this great achievement.

Colbie Caillat - Bubbly chords and lyrics

I first 'discovered' Colbie Caillat ( not literally! ) when she sent me an add request on MySpace about 18 months ago. She was an unsigned artist at that time, but listening to her profile songs ( to which Bubbly was added quite early ), it was obvious she was going places. Having been #1 Unsigned singer for an amazing 3 months, Bubbly finally broke the charts in the US, making it all the way to the #1 Spot.

For some reason, it's taking some time for Colbie to hit the same heights on my side of the pond - if you are one of the unfortunates who haven't heard her sultry blend of country/blues/rock ballad, check out the 6 songs on her MySpace profile ( Bubbly included ), and see why the song had 22 million clicks up to last August!!
