Death Cab for Cutie "Codes And Keys" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

Death Cab For Cutie are one of the bands who have been recommended to me by my daughters and their friends, but which I never seem to get around to having a good listen to.

I did get a chance to have a listen to their new album "Codes And Keys", and was really impressed. Comparisons to Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol are inevitable, particularly with many of the songs being keyboard driven. But they acquit themselves very highly in this company.

I was particularly taken with the Title track, "Codes and Keys ( duh... ) and have worked out the chords and lyrics for it, which I've posted to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page, or you can just click on the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics to "Codes And Keys" by Death Cab For Cutie.

Just a throwaway piece of info for the anoraks - the band got their name from a really funny song by the great 60's outfit "The Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band". Just sayin'..!

Adele "Rolling in The Deep" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

It's hard to avoid Adele when thinking of songs to work out these days! There have been times where she seems to occupy every second position in the singles charts.

I have already worked out the chords and lyrics for "To Make You Feel My Love", "Someone like You", and "Set Fire To The Rain", and posted them to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page.

Struggling to keep up with the prolific Adele, but I have now worked out easy to play chords and lyrics for "Rolling In The Deep". The song is in the key of C# minor / E flat major, which would be pretty difficult for those of us who are not quite expert guitar players, so I have transcribed the song to be in the key of A minor / C major, which makes for a much more playable set of chords - Am, F, G, Em, E, and C. Putting a capo on the 3rd fret will bring the song back to the original key - but you should obviously aim for a key which suits your voice.

There is a 'bridge' part which is piano/keyboard based, which involves playing some notes over an A minor chord, but you can busk it through with just the A minor if you find this too difficult.

Guitar Chords - Amy McDonald "This is the Life"

TV commercials can be a great source for discovering new artists ( or at least artists new to me! ) and some great songs for playing on guitar.

The recent Fiat 500 Twin Air TV ad featured a great song I had never heard, and which on 'Googling' it discovered was Amy McDonald singing "This is The Life", from her debut album of the same name in 2007, which reached the number 1 spot in the UK's ( and several other European country's ) album charts. First impression was that she sounds like a female version of fellow-Scot Paolo Nutini, but that's just my impression.

The song is in the key of C# minor, with chords being C#m, B, E and G#. Not the easiest set of chords for guitar players in the early learning stages, so I transposed the song to the key of A minor. This allows for a much more straightforward set of chords: Am, F, C and E, which are played throughout the song. Play with a capo on the 4th fret to bring the song back to it's original key.

I have posted my transcribed version of the chords and lyrics to "This is the Life" to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

Guitar Chords "To Make You Feel My Love" Adele and Bob Dylan

This post is a 2-for-1 special! When I heard Adele's version of "To Make You Feel My Love" I realized that I hadn't posted the chords for the original version by Bob Dylan, despite the fact that I am a huge Dylan fan.

Thought I might have gotten away with just working out the song once, but on listening to both versions, there are quite a few differences, the Dylan version is bluesier, and is in a totally different key. So... I worked out the chords for both versions, so that you should be able to play whichever is your favourite version. Or even mix it up and alternate between the two!

The Adele version is in the key of B flat, a tricky key, so I have transposed it to the key of G - if you put a capo on the 3rd fret you'll be playing back in B flat, and can play along with the original Adele version. The transposed chords are: G, G/F#, F, C, Cm, G, A7, D7 and G for the verse and C, G, B7, C, G, C, G, A7, D7 for the Bridge.

The Dylan version is in the key of C sharp, so I've also transposed the chords for this version, down to C, so in this case you would need a capo on the 1st fret to play along with the original.

The chords are a bit more complex, but I have included a chart showing the fingering for each of the chords used, which are: Cadd9, Em7, Em7b5, F, Fm, C, D7, G, Cadd9 for the verse, and for the Bridge - F, C, E, F, C, F, C, Dm7 and G.

I've posted my chord arrangement for Adele's version on my Pop Songs Guitar Chords at the link below:

I've posted my version of Dylan's original on my Bob Dylan Songs Guitar Chords at the link below:

Willie Nelson "On the Road Again" Chords and Lyrics

Although I do quite like American country music, including the legendary Willie Nelson, I don't feature too many on my website, perhaps a few on the Folk Songs chords or Golden Oldies chords pages.

I've had a few requests from Facebook friends for Willie Nelson songs, and two specifically for "On the Road Again", so I have worked out the chords and lyrics and added them to the Golden Oldies page ( the song was #1 in the US Charts in 1980, having been written for the soundtrack of the movie "Honeysuckle Rose".)

The original version of the song is in the key of E major, with chords: E, G#m, F#m, A and B. Not the easiest of chord sequences for early learners, so I've transcribed the song to the key of C major, which makes for a much more manageable set of chords: C, Em, Dm, F and G. Put a capo on the 4th fret to bring the key back up to E, if you want to play along with the original - otherwise move the capo until you find the chords are a good fit for your vocals.

You can find the transposed chords for "On the Road Again" at this link:

Kings of Leon "Radioactive" Guitar Chords & Lyrics

Hard to believe that it's over two years since I posted chords and lyrics for a song by Tenesee's finest. The Kings of Leon are right up there with the top rock bands on the planet, they have regularly headlined at at least one of Ireland's summer rock festivals for the past number of years.

I had previously posted my interpretations on my Rock Songs guitar chords page for "Use Somebody" and "Sex on Fire", from the 2008 album "Only by the Night", as well as older songs like "Molly's Chambers", "Fans", and "The Bucket".

I have now added my version of "Radioactive", the first single from the 2010 album "Come around Sundown"

The original key for the song is F major, but I've found it easier to put a capo on the 3rd fret, and play in the key of D major. This leaves you with chords D, D/F#, Bm, Asus4 and Em7 ( I have diagrams for these chords if you're not familiar with them ).

I have posted my version of "Radioactive" on my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at www.guitarsongs.info (PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics)

The chords and lyrics for "Radioactive" are at this link:

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream Guitar Chords and Lyrics

While some of my website visitors and blog readers may be surprised to see posts of Katy Perry songs at www.guitarsongs.info, not exactly being guitar-based songs, "Teenage Dream" is actually the third song by Katheryn Elizabeth Brand ( aka Katy Perry ), having previously posted "Hot'n'Cold" and "I kissed a girl" to my Pop songs guitar chords page.

But... they are good fun pop songs, they can be played on guitar, and I like to include as many songs by female vocalists as I can.

No denying Ms. Perry's popularity either, the album of the same name debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching #1 in Ireland and New Zealand. The single did likewise, as well as topping the charts in the UK, Australia and Canada

I've worked out my version of the song, and added it to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page at the Guitarsongs.Info link below.

In the video below, the song is played in the key of DMaj7 ( D Major Seventh ), with chords DMaj7, F#m E, which can be a bit tricky if you're a beginner. I have transposed it down two semitones to CMaj7, so that it can be played with just chords: CMaj7, D and Em - you'll have to listen to the song to get the strumming pattern. I've indicated that you should put your capo on the second fret if you want to play along with the original.

Villagers "That Day" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

Villagers are the latest of the new wave of Irish bands who are giving some musical hope at least to a country who's leaders seem determined to drag it down to the morass.

Their new album "Becoming a Jackal" reached number 1 in the Irish Album and Indie Charts, while also being nominated for a Mercury prize, while the band themselves were nominated for a Q award.

I first heard them on Jools Holland on BBC2, and was hooked, particularly to the whimsical "That Day", which is actually their 4th single.

I've worked out my version of the song, and added it to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at the Guitarsongs.Info link below.

If you listen to the video ( also below ), the song is actually played in the key of G# ( A flat ), but I've chorded it in the the key of G, and indicated that you should put your capo on the 1st fret to get the correct pitch for the recorded song.

After transposition to G, the chords are a fairly manageable set of G, C, D, E minor, B minor and G/F# ( which is just a transition chord between the G and the E minor and is played: 2xx003 )

The Doors "Break on Through to the Other Side" chords and lyrics

I'm not sure if "Break on through to the other side" has featured in a recent movie, in a TV ad, or if there is just a resurgence of The Doors music, but, not having heard this song in years, it has literally been all over Irish radio stations in the past few months.

My first reaction was to go to my Doors songs guitar chords page, and have a go at playing the song again. Then realized I had never worked out the song, or at least never added it to this page, which I first uploaded in 1999.

Second thought was that maybe it was one of those songs which didn't translate too well to just playing chords on an acoustic guitar, but I decided to have a go anyway!

While I can't claim the transcription I came up with is going to make you sound like the late, great Jim Morrison, it does offer a very simplified chords and lyrics version of "Break on Through" which guitarists of most levels should be able to have fun with.

Obviously if you have a friend who can shred some of those doom-laden Doors licks along with your playing, so much the better, but - give it a go anyway! The good news is that you only need to know two chords - D major (D) and E minor (Em). You will really need to listen to the original to get the strumming patterns, but I've indicated the chord changes as best I can.

I've added my transcription to the other Doors songs on the page ( People are Strange, Riders on the Storm, Hello I love you and Light My Fire, you can find them all at the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Cathy Davey "Little Red"

Cathy Davey is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland, who first came to my attention when I heard "Reuben", which was a No. 1 single from her second album "Tales of Silversleeve ( Irish album of the year 2007 ). Loved the song, so I worked out the chords and lyrics and posted them to my Pop Songs guitar chords page.

Hadn't really heard much more of her work until "Little Red" hit the radio waves, having been released as the first single from her new album "The Nameless". Another bouncy, catchy song - I will have to check out the other songs on this album, particularly the new single "Army of Tears", which I've yet to hear.

Anywaze, I have worked out a playable version of "Little Red", and posted it to my Guitar Chords and Lyrics website at the link below. Nice easy set of chords, just G, Em for much of the song, with C, A and D featuring in the chorus. Trickiest part for me was trying to reach those high notes on the "Oooooooo, Oooooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" bits!

Miscellaneous rock guitar songs: Cathy Davey - "Little Red"

2 Door Cinema Club "Something Good can work" chords & lyrics

Once again I'm sticking with electro-pop as being the best of new music, given the shortage of actual guitar based songs in the charts or on the radio these days. This time it's a catchy little number "Something Good can Work" by Northern Ireland band Two Door Cinema Club, from their debut album "Tourist History. They begin a tour of Ireland and the UK shortly, having opened for Phoenix on their 2010 tour.

Obviously songs like this one would be more suited to anyone playing or learning to play electronic keyboards, but I have worked out what I hope is a "buskable" version for guitar players, I'm sure the chord sequence would work fine on keyboards also.

I think it can sound ok as just a guitar song, trickiest part is not stumbling over the rapid-fire lyrics! The song is in the key of F, but I have worked out a simple version for early learners in the key of C, where the chords are: C major, A minor, E minor, F major and G major. Just place a capo on the fifth fret, and you will be playing back in G, so can play along with the song.

My guitar version of "Something Good Can Work" has been uploaded to my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Mumford and Sons "The Cave" Guitar chords and lyrics

This is the second song I've worked out from the recent and brilliant "Sigh no More" album by London's "indie/folk/rock" band Mumford and Sons.

"The Cave" is the 3rd single from the album, and (so far) my favourite song, with the deceptively quiet folksy opening building up to raucous anthemic choruses.

Once again, it's quite an easy song to play. I've tabbed the little riff around the D chord from the intro and at the start of each verse ( indicated as D* in the song transcription ). Other than that it is basically D, Bm, A and G chords covering the verses and the chorus.

I have worked out my version of the chords and lyrics for "The Cave" and added them to my Rock Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

Ben Harper - "Faithfully Remain" chords & lyrics

Another 'debut' artist on my website, and yet another song that I first heard in an episode of "House MD".

"Faithfully Remain", by Ben Harper and Relentless Seven, is a great song on the 2009 album "White Lies for Dark Times", and showcases Harper's anguished vocals, superb guitar playing and songwriting skills.

Ben has been around for quite a while ( first album "Pleasure and Pain" released in 1992 ), so apologies to fans for not including any of his previous stuff, I'll certainly try to catch up on his work and work out some more of his songs for this Blog.

I've worked out chords for "Faithfully Remain" and posted them to my Pop songs guitar chords page at the link below:

Pop Guitar chords and lyrics to "Faithfully Remain" by Ben Harper and Relentless 7

Try playing along with the video above or at this Youtube link for Faithfully Remain

Chords are pretty easy to play, even for relative beginners, consisting of E, A, B and C#m. If you find these chords tricky, put a capo on the 2nd fret, and transpose down a full tone, so the chords will change as follows:

E -> D
A -> G
B -> A
C#m -> Bm

That should do it!

The Fray "Over My Head" chords & lyrics

Since the title track of their debut album "How to Save a Life", The Fray have continued to produce songs which are 'instant anthems'. "How to Save a Life" and "You Found Me" are two of the most downloaded songs from my website.

"Over My Head" (Cable Car) has the same timeless qualities, I've worked out a very playable of the song and added it to my Rock Song chords page at the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics to "Over My Head (Cable Car)" by The Fray

It's a great and fun song for even the early learner to play. The chords are generally among the first chords every guitarist learns, G, C, D, Em, and Am, with an Em7 (022030) and G/F# (2x2030).

Play along with the video below:

... or on YouTube at The Fray "Over My Head"

Please take a few minutes to browse the other miscellaneous songs on my Rock guitar songs or Pop guitar songs pages or browse through the list of artists on the left of my Guitar Chords & Lyrics home page and pick some artists who's songs you'd like to play.

Jack Johnson "Hope" guitar chords & lyrics

When I heard about the impending release of Jack Johnson's new album 'En Concert', it reminded me how great the 2008 'Sleep Through the Static" album was, and how few songs I'd worked out from it. The last Jack Johnson song chords I posted to the site were for "If I had eyes".

So I've had a listen through the album again, and picked "Hope" as a great song, both to listen to and to play, as my next song to work out playable chords and lyrics for. I've posted them to my Jack Johnson page, at the link below:

Jack Johnson guitar chords and lyrics I know you'll have fun playing this one! It has the typical Jack Johnson bubbly calypso sound, and very easy chords - G, Am, and C - pretty much the first three chords most learning guitarists get to grips with.

Norah Jones "Chasing Pirates" chords & lyrics

Norah Jones has released a new album "The Fall", her first since 2007's "Not Too Late". The album marks something of a new direction musically, and the artist credits boast some top studio crew and musicians who have previously collaborated with the likes of Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, Beck, REM, Elvis Costello and Johnny Cash.

The chords and lyrics for Norah's "Thinking about You" was my last Norah Jones post, and I've only had a chance to have a quick listen to the new album, it sounds really smooth, with a 'fuller' sound than previous albums.

I have worked out and posted the chords and lyrics of "Chasing Pirates", the first single from the new album, to my Norah Jones song chords page, check out the link below.

PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Norah Jones songs, "Chasing Pirates"

If the embedded video above doesn't play, you can still play along with the song by listening along on YouTube - Norah Jones "Chasing Pirates"

Chords for the song are very straightforward, it should be suitable for early learners to have a go! Verse chords are D, Bm, G, Em and chorus chords are: G, A, D, Bm. That's it!

David Gray has just released his 8th album "Draw The Line", the first album of new songs since 2005's "Life in Slow Motion".

I've only had a brief listen to it, but it sounds like his songwriting is right back to the standard of his best work.

I had already posted 15 David Gray song chords to my website, PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics

I have now worked out my version of the great new single from the album "Fugitive", and posted it to the site at the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics to David Gray "Fugitive"

If the video of the song (above) doesn't play, you can listen to "Fugitive" on Youtube

Beatles - All Together Now chords & lyrics

Yet another song brought to mind by a TV ad - this time it's the Budweiser ad, featuring a version of the Beatles "All Together Now", from the Yellow Submarine album. When looking for Beatles songs to play on guitar , Yellow Submarine is not the first album you reach for, so this song has pretty much passed me by over the years.

But hearing it again on the ad, it is a bouncy, fun song, and very easy to play - in fact it is one of the 'dream' songs for early learners, as it features just three chords - G, C and D, generally the first three chords guitar tutors will teach.

So as it's a fun song, and very suitable for early learners, I have worked out my interpretation of the chords and lyrics and posted them to my Beatles page ( link below )

If the video above doesn't play, the YouTube version is HERE

I hope you'll have as much fun with it as I have!

The official Beatles website is at thebeatles.com

Five for Fighting - Easy Tonight chords and lyrics

I have to admit that Five for Fighting ( stage name of US singer-songwriter John Ondrasik ) largely passed me by. I know that Superman (It's not easy) was a hit from the 2000 album "America Town" ( mental note to add this one to my 'to do' list )

But I heard "Easy Tonight" while watching an episode of the TV show Scrubs, and remembered it as one of the 'ones that got away' - I know I had it on my list at the time, but it somehow slipped through the net.

So, somewhat belatedly, I've worked out my version of the chords and lyrics, and added them to my website at the link below:

Guitar chords and lyrics to "Easy Tonight" by Five for Fighting.

You can listen/watch and play along to the song at This YouTube link

Colbie Caillat - Fallin' For You chords and lyrics

I accepted a MySpace friend request from Colbie Caillat about three & a half years ago. I promote my chords and lyrics website on my MySpace account, so I get a lot of friend requests from bands and artists.

She was an unsigned artist then, but had already had a huge number of listeners to the songs featured on her MySpace page. She has a great voice, and the songs even back then were polished and professional, so I was telling anyone who would listen that she was going to be 'BIG!'.

I've posted chords and lyrics for the brilliant "Bubbly", which had over 22 million plays on her MySpace page before taking the US charts by storm and hitting the #1 single spot in May 2007, and also chords and lyrics for "Realize", which was also a top 20 hit from the debut album "Coco".

I have now worked out my interpretation of her latest single "Fallin' for You", released in June 2009, and which went straight into the US charts at #12. Still puzzling as to why this success isn't mirrored in the UK and Europe, maybe it's just a matter of time.

For those who are familiar with these songs, and would like to attempt playing them, I have worked out fairly easy to play versions which you can reach at the links below:

Colbie Caillat - "Bubbly" chords and lyrics.

Colbie Caillat - "Realize" chords and lyrics.

Colbie Caillat - "Fallin' For You" chords and lyrics.

If you're not familiar with the songs, you can check them out at these links:

Colbie Caillat - "Bubbly" on YouTube.

Colbie Caillat - "Realize" on YouTube.

Colbie Caillat - "Fallin For You" on YouTube.

You can buy her great new album "Breakthrough", or her brilliant first album "Coco", featuring "Bubbly" and her other singles at CD Universe - Colbie Caillat music page

Colbie's official website is at http://www.colbiecaillatmusic.com/ Her world renowned MySpace page is at http://www.myspace.com/colbiecaillat - this is a 'must visit' page!!!

P.S. - In case you're wondering, my latest tip for the next band to make it big via MySpace is a Canadian rock band recently re-invented as "Moeraes Fate" and previously known as "Dame", now gigging and recording as "Moeraes Fate" - check out their new & old MySpace pages at http://www.myspace.com/moeraesfateband and http://www.myspace.com/dameband Moeraes Fate are a fantastic 3 piece all-girl rock band who are destined for greatness. You heard it here first!

Enjoy your music!
