I was a huge fan of Oasis in the mid-90s, once again thanks to the good taste of my lovely daughters! As a result, there are obout 30 Oasis songs on my Oasis guitar chords page.
I kinda didn't keep up with the later albums, but since hearing the first few songs from the debut album, simply titled "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds", I have been re-converted. Noel and his new troupe of musicians combine the best of the melodic side of Oasis, without being 'Oasis-light' - there is still a rocky edge to the sound. Delighted to hear that the new tour ( currently in Ireland ) is really kicking up a storm, with fans and critics alike.
I've worked out the chords and lyrics for the first single from the album "Death of You and Me", which for convenience I have posted to my Oasis page (see above). Click on the link below to go straight to the page for the song:

Adele "Rolling in The Deep" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
It's hard to avoid Adele when thinking of songs to work out these days! There have been times where she seems to occupy every second position in the singles charts.
I have already worked out the chords and lyrics for "To Make You Feel My Love", "Someone like You", and "Set Fire To The Rain", and posted them to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page.
Struggling to keep up with the prolific Adele, but I have now worked out easy to play chords and lyrics for "Rolling In The Deep". The song is in the key of C# minor / E flat major, which would be pretty difficult for those of us who are not quite expert guitar players, so I have transcribed the song to be in the key of A minor / C major, which makes for a much more playable set of chords - Am, F, G, Em, E, and C. Putting a capo on the 3rd fret will bring the song back to the original key - but you should obviously aim for a key which suits your voice.
There is a 'bridge' part which is piano/keyboard based, which involves playing some notes over an A minor chord, but you can busk it through with just the A minor if you find this too difficult.
You can find the guitar chords and lyrics for "Rolling In The Deep" on Guitarsongs.info at Adele - guitar chords for "Rolling in the Deep"

Guitar Chords Avril Lavigne "Everybody Hurts"
I still think of Avril Lavigne as a relatively new young artist, so was amazed when checking on Wikipedia that her first album "Let Go", which included "Complicated" and "I'm With You" was released in 2002. Yup, nine years ago!
In that time, I have worked out easy chords and lyrics versions to 8 of Avril's songs, including the two mentioned above, with "When You're Gone" being the last one posted, back in 2007, on my Avril Lavigne song chords page.
Haven't heard much from Ms. Lavigne since then, but just heard her new single "Everybody Hurts" on the radio, and it sounds like she's back to top form.
The song is in the key of F#/G#m, with chords being G#m, E, B and F#. As these are quite difficult chords for early learning guitar players, I transposed the song to the key of D/Em, which produces a much more manageable set of chords: Em, C, G and D. Play with a capo on the 4th fret to bring the song back to it's original key.
I have posted my simplified chords and lyrics version of "Everybody Hurts" to my Avril Lavigne Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

Bruno Mars "Grenade" chords and lyrics
This is the second single from Bruno's debut album "Doo-wops and Hooligans", a great selection of bright and bouncy pop tunes.
I have been listening to the song, and have worked out a simple chords and lyrics version, and posted it on my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page at www.guitarsongs.info (PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics)
The song is in D Minor, with the chords being D minor, A minor, B flat, A major, F major, C major and G minor.
Because there are a few tricky chords here for the early learner, I transcribed the song to A minor, which produces chords: A minor, E minor, E major, F major, C major, G major and D minor - a set of chords most people learn at an early stage. Just put a capo on the 5th fret while playing the A minor version, and you will still be in D minor, and able to play along with the original.
You can find the chords and lyrics for "Grenade" at this link:

Guitar Chords to "Kentish Town Waltz" by Imelda May and Lou Reed
This is only my second post of a song by the divine Imelda May. There are actually two versions of the song released, one with just Imelda May and the other where she duets with the legendary Lou Reed - an unlikely combination, but it works! Although, I have to admit that the solo version is my favourite of this gorgeous little story, based on Imelda's real-life experience of arriving in London seeking her fortune.
"Kentish Town Waltz" is taken from the third Imelda May album "Mayhem", which also features the single of the same name, and her brilliant cover of "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell ( click the link for my chords & lyrics transcription for that classic ).
The song has very simple chords, suitable for early learners and consisting of G, D, D7, C and Am.
I have posted my transcription of this song to my Pop songs guitar chords page at the link below, give it a try, and have fun! Imelda and the band are currently ( April '11 ) touring with Jeff Beck, so if you get the chance, that's a gig worth attending!

Willie Nelson "On the Road Again" Chords and Lyrics
Although I do quite like American country music, including the legendary Willie Nelson, I don't feature too many on my website, perhaps a few on the Folk Songs chords or Golden Oldies chords pages.
I've had a few requests from Facebook friends for Willie Nelson songs, and two specifically for "On the Road Again", so I have worked out the chords and lyrics and added them to the Golden Oldies page ( the song was #1 in the US Charts in 1980, having been written for the soundtrack of the movie "Honeysuckle Rose".)
The original version of the song is in the key of E major, with chords: E, G#m, F#m, A and B. Not the easiest of chord sequences for early learners, so I've transcribed the song to the key of C major, which makes for a much more manageable set of chords: C, Em, Dm, F and G. Put a capo on the 4th fret to bring the key back up to E, if you want to play along with the original - otherwise move the capo until you find the chords are a good fit for your vocals.
You can find the transposed chords for "On the Road Again" at this link:

Good Charlotte "Like its her birthday" Chords and Lyrics
This is only my third effort at working out chords and lyrics for a Good Charlotte song, despite their having released 5 albums since 2000. I guess they don't get too much airplay on Irish or UK radio, so I have only previously posted my interpretations of "Lifestyles of the rich and famous" and "Dance Floor Anthem", both of which are featured on my Miscellaneous Rock songs guitar chords page .
I like the bands indie/pop/rock sound, and the songs are usually pretty playable, even for learning guitarists, so I hope to get a chance to listen to the new album "Cardiology" and maybe work out chords for another song or two - probably "Counting the Days" which I gather is to be the second single.
"Like it's her birthday" is played in the tricky key of F sharp, or more accurately, G sharp minor, so once again I've tried to simplify the song by transposing it to the key of D / E minor, and putting a capo on the 4th fret so that you can play along with the original. Doing it this way means the chords used are D, Em, C and G, which are raised by the capo to the actual chords of F#, G#m, E and B.
I have posted my transposed version of "Like it's her Birthday" on my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at www.guitarsongs.info (PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics)

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream Guitar Chords and Lyrics
While some of my website visitors and blog readers may be surprised to see posts of Katy Perry songs at www.guitarsongs.info, not exactly being guitar-based songs, "Teenage Dream" is actually the third song by Katheryn Elizabeth Brand ( aka Katy Perry ), having previously posted "Hot'n'Cold" and "I kissed a girl" to my Pop songs guitar chords page.
But... they are good fun pop songs, they can be played on guitar, and I like to include as many songs by female vocalists as I can.
No denying Ms. Perry's popularity either, the album of the same name debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200, as well as reaching #1 in Ireland and New Zealand. The single did likewise, as well as topping the charts in the UK, Australia and Canada
I've worked out my version of the song, and added it to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page at the Guitarsongs.Info link below.
In the video below, the song is played in the key of DMaj7 ( D Major Seventh ), with chords DMaj7, F#m E, which can be a bit tricky if you're a beginner. I have transposed it down two semitones to CMaj7, so that it can be played with just chords: CMaj7, D and Em - you'll have to listen to the song to get the strumming pattern. I've indicated that you should put your capo on the second fret if you want to play along with the original.

Leonard Cohen "Feels So Good" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
I can hardly believe that I'm typing this, but I have just worked out chords and lyrics for a NEW song by the 74-years-young legend that is Leonard Cohen!
Leonard Cohen's music has been a part of my life since I was a curious teenager, swimming through the oceans of bland music in search of a few islands of hope and joy. I was fortunate enough to discover 'Songs from a Room', and have been a huge fan since. This is a very humble tribute to Leonard Cohen, but you get the picture.
I was unfortunate not to be able to catch him live on his 2009 tour, but the DVD of the London performance has provided me with over 2 and a half hours of spiritual renewal and uplift many, many times.
"Feels so Good" doesn't seem to have featured on that tour, but is now one of the songs Leonard plays as he tours yet again in 2010. To still be writing songs, and indeed undertaking arduous tours, at the time other men of his age have settled for the TV remote, is an indication of the passion and the creativity of the man.
While this is by no means Leonard's best work, it fits in so well with the whole 'vibe' of his recent tours, and has some wonderful wry lyrics - "Cup of coffee in the kitchen, fire up a little danger to my health"...
I'm delighted to be adding to my store of Cohen song chords again, I've posted this one to the link below:
Guitar chords and lyrics - "Feels so Good" by Leonard Cohen
You might enjoy playing along with the song above, or on Youtube at Leonard Cohen - "Feels So Good" live in Chicago . To the best of my knowledge the song hasn't appeared on a studio album as yet, but there are a number of live versions available on YouTube.
You can find the official Leonard Cohen website at : leonardcohen.com

Eliza Doolittle "Pack Up" guitar chords and lyrics
This is another 'debut' artist for my website and Blog. Not too surprising, I guess, since it's just the second single from Eliza Doolittle's self-titled album which was released only last month ( July 2010 ).
It's a really infectious pop song, in the vein of Lady Lenka, Gabriella Cilmi and Cathy Davey - all artists who's songs I have previously interpreted for guitar learners and posted to my Pop Guitar song chords and lyrics page.
The hook in the chorus of the song ( sung by Lloyd Wade ) is taken from the title of the 1915 song "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag", but the song itself was written by Eliza. With the album reaching number 3 in the UK charts, and the single currently at number 8, Londoner Eliza looks like establishing herself alongside the other great female singer-songwriters of today.
The song ( as featured on Youtube ) is in the key of B major, but I have transcribed it to G, giving a much easier set of chords for the learning guitarist to get to grips with. If you put a capo on the 4th fret and play the chords as indicated, you should be able to play along with the original ( G major + 4 semitones = B major ).
When I was messing around with the song I was originally playing C D at the end of each verse leading into the G at the beginning of the chorus, but on closer listening to the song I believe these chords are C diminished ( xx1212 ) and C# diminished ( xx2323 ). Early learners might be happy to stick with the C and D chords, but the diminished chords sound better to me.
I have added "Pack Up" to my pop songs guitar chords page at the link below, I hope you'll have lots of fun with it.

The Doors "Break on Through to the Other Side" chords and lyrics
I'm not sure if "Break on through to the other side" has featured in a recent movie, in a TV ad, or if there is just a resurgence of The Doors music, but, not having heard this song in years, it has literally been all over Irish radio stations in the past few months.
My first reaction was to go to my Doors songs guitar chords page, and have a go at playing the song again. Then realized I had never worked out the song, or at least never added it to this page, which I first uploaded in 1999.
Second thought was that maybe it was one of those songs which didn't translate too well to just playing chords on an acoustic guitar, but I decided to have a go anyway!
While I can't claim the transcription I came up with is going to make you sound like the late, great Jim Morrison, it does offer a very simplified chords and lyrics version of "Break on Through" which guitarists of most levels should be able to have fun with.
Obviously if you have a friend who can shred some of those doom-laden Doors licks along with your playing, so much the better, but - give it a go anyway! The good news is that you only need to know two chords - D major (D) and E minor (Em). You will really need to listen to the original to get the strumming patterns, but I've indicated the chord changes as best I can.
I've added my transcription to the other Doors songs on the page ( People are Strange, Riders on the Storm, Hello I love you and Light My Fire, you can find them all at the link below:

Plan B "She Said" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
I really never thought this day would arrive. I'm transcribing a song which features a hip-hop interlude. Regular readers of this blog ( now picking themselves up from the floor and reaching for the smelling salts ) will know that I am very much *not* a fan of hip-hop - particularly when it spoils a perfectly good song, usually a nice soul ballad with a female vocal.
To be honest, when I first heard Plan B's "She Said" this was exactly what I thought I was hearing. Then I saw the band perform on a TV show, and was amazed that both the silky soulful voice and the "Brit-hip-hop" spoken part were being performed by the same guy - Ben Drew.
Anywaze, the song grew on me - even the rap didn't grate so much, so I've decided it's worth including on my website. "She said" is the second single from "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", a concept album about a British soul singer who finds fame, but ends up in prison for a crime he didn't commit, as portrayed in the video for the song ( below ).
I decided the best location for my chords and lyrics version of the songs was on my Soul, R&B song chords page - you can check it out at the link below:

Ben Kweller "Wasted and Ready" guitar chords and lyrics
I have to give a big 'shout-out' to my two darlin' daughters for always helping out with suggestions for artists and songs to work out and add to this blog and to my chords and lyrics site
I certainly wouldn't have gotten to hear Ben Kweller's music without them.
"Wasted and Ready" is Ben's first single, taken from the debut album "Sha Sha". It's a kind of 'bubblegum rock' song which draws a lot from Weezer, and actually reminded me of Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag" ( another blast from the past! ), although Kweller quotes Nils Lofgren as the primary inspiration for his writing.
It's a really fun song to play, I've chorded it for acoustic, 'though it's actually probably more suited for jamming on electric with bass and drums - in which case you would mainly be using power chords, so just substitute E5 for E, A5 for A, G#5 for G#m etc.
This one is probably not for the early learning guitarist, as the chords will be quite tricky - E, G#m, A, F#m, C and D, and there are very 'rocky' strumming patterns.
I will definitely be checking out Ben's other releases ( His latest album "Changing Horses" was released in 2009, and from what I hear is more laid back and country, but I'm especially looking forward to hearing songs from "Bens", a collaborative EP made with Ben Folds and Ben Lee.
I have posted my version of "Wasted and Ready" in basic chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, just click on the link below:

Lady Antebellum "American Honey" Guitar Chords and lyrics
Once again, in the search to find good new songs which are suitable for the early learning guitar player, I'm faced with a fairly barren landscape of new rock, rock/pop, singer-songwriter etc. material, so am checking out some genres I might have previously have bypassed - you will have noticed a few electro/techno/pop songs recently!
Lady Antebellum are a roots country music group, as you might expect coming from Nashville, Tennessee. What impressed me about this song was the purity of the vocals and harmonies, Hilary Scott having one of the sweetest country voices I've ever heard.
They released their first album, the eponymous "Lady Antebellum" in 2008, which featured the US Number one single "I run to you" ( this one completely passed me by, but I will most probably post it in the future )
"American Honey" is taken from their second and latest album "Need You now" which reached #1 in the US top 40 album charts, and gave Lady Antebellum their third consecutive #1 single in the USA Billboard charts.
The chords for the song are very playable, with the verse, chorus and bridge containing C, Am, F and Dm, G and Em.
It's a song with great opportunities for vocal harmonies, so while you can play it solo, it's one of those songs which will go down well at a jam session, where the other members can lift the song with the harmonies on the chorus.
I've uploaded my chords version of "American Honey" to my Pop songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Paramore "The Only Exception" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
Yet another debut band ( for my Blog and Website, that is! ). Paramore are a Tennessee, USA band who have been around since 2004, have released 3 hit albums and been nominated for numerous Grammy and other awards - I just somehow haven't gotten round to listening to their songs that much, so this is my first attempt to work out an easy, chords and lyrics version of "The Only Exception", the third single from their 2009 album "Brand New Eyes". Lovely song, with gorgeous lyrics from Hayley Williams.
The song is in the somewhat tricky key of B major, and doesn't exactly use a standard pop/rock sequence of chords, but I think I've come up with a very playable version, even for early learning guitarists. I've changed the key from B major to G major - if you put your capo on the 4th fret this will bring your sound back to the original key. Intro, verses and chorus are all: G, Dm and Cmaj7 ( 332000 ), there is a Bridge which uses Am, G, and D, and an Outro with F, C, and G.
My guitar chords version of "The Only Exception" has been uploaded to my Pop songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Train "Hey Soul Sister" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
Sometimes I wonder if I'm living on another planet. When I first heard "Hey Soul Sister" on the radio, I thought it was maybe Jason Mraz or one of the new genre of singer-songwriters, but the DJ announced it was by a band called "Train", I thought "Hey! Great to hear another new pop/rock band on the scene".
So - I worked on the song and just before creating this post I thought I'd check the band out on the ever-reliable Wikipedia, only to find that they have been a really successful band in the US since the release of their debut album "Train" TWELVE YEARS AGO!! "Hey Soul Sister" is actually the first single from their 6th album "Save me San Francisco". I dunno, maybe just one of those bands who didn't get picked up by UK/European radio stations until now.
Either way, it's a great song, and not that difficult to play. The verses consist of E, B, C#m and A, with chorus chords of A, B and E. If you find these chords a bit tricky to play, just place a capo on the 2nd fret and transpose the chords as follows:
E ->D
B ->A
C#m->Bm
A ->G
So the verse chords will be D, A, Bm and G, and the chorus will have G, A and D.
I will try to check out the Train back-catalogue, and maybe work out a few more of their songs, they sound like a really good band. In the meantime I've added my interpretation of "Hey Soul Sister" in chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, just click on the link below:

Paulo Nutini "Worried Man" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
This is Paolo's version of the old classic Folk/Blues song "Worried Man Blues", as recorded and performed by Woody Guthrie, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and many others.
I had a request for chords and lyrics for the song from Catherine, and was about to reply with the link to the song on my Folk song chords page, but discovered that I had never posted it!
In any case, Paolo had of course put his own stamp on the song, and not only changed the tempo and style, but also the lyrics and chord sequences!
So I've worked out Paolo's version, which I have posted to my Paolo Nutini song chords page, at the link below. I will revisit the original "Worried Man Blues" classic as soon as I can, and add it to the Folk page.

2 Door Cinema Club "Something Good can work" chords & lyrics
Once again I'm sticking with electro-pop as being the best of new music, given the shortage of actual guitar based songs in the charts or on the radio these days. This time it's a catchy little number "Something Good can Work" by Northern Ireland band Two Door Cinema Club, from their debut album "Tourist History. They begin a tour of Ireland and the UK shortly, having opened for Phoenix on their 2010 tour.
Obviously songs like this one would be more suited to anyone playing or learning to play electronic keyboards, but I have worked out what I hope is a "buskable" version for guitar players, I'm sure the chord sequence would work fine on keyboards also.
I think it can sound ok as just a guitar song, trickiest part is not stumbling over the rapid-fire lyrics! The song is in the key of F, but I have worked out a simple version for early learners in the key of C, where the chords are: C major, A minor, E minor, F major and G major. Just place a capo on the fifth fret, and you will be playing back in G, so can play along with the song.
My guitar version of "Something Good Can Work" has been uploaded to my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Florence & the Machine "Dog Days" chords and lyrics
Surprised it has taken me so long to post my first 'Florence and the Machine' song chords and lyrics, given that the brilliant debut album "Lungs" hit #1 in the UK charts in January, and won the Best British Album at the 2010 Brit Awards.
I have now worked out chords and lyrics for the second single from the album "Dog Days are Over", really simple chords, just G, E minor and A minor - pretty much the first three chords a guitar beginner will learn.
Having been a bit slow off the blocks, I will certainly be working out some more of the songs from this album, and will post them to the site soon, meanwhile I've added my interpretation of "Dog Days are Over" in simple chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, just click on the link below:

Owl City "Fireflies" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
Although this is pretty much a techno or synth-pop song, I liked it so much I decided to have a go at working out a playable version for guitar.
I think it worked out quite well, considering - key was E flat, which was a bit tricky for early learners, so I stuck a capo on 3rd fret, and chorded it in C.
Owl City ( a.k.a. Adam Young ) is a relatively new act, hadn't heard any of their stuff before, but "Fireflies", from their 2nd album "Ocean Eyes" got loads of airplay, Adam having built up a huge following on MySpace before releasing the debut album "Maybe I'm Dreaming".
I think "Fireflies" works ok without the synth effects, and once you use the Capo on the 3rd fret, the chords are C, F, G, Em and Am - a nice enough set of chords, playable by people at most levels.
I've uploaded my chords version of "Fireflies" to my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:
