Aloe Blacc "I Need A Dollar" Chords and Lyrics

Aloe Blacc is yet another artist I'd never heard of before this song hit the airwaves with a vengeance - but it would seem he has been performing and recording since the mid 90's. "I need a dollar" was taken from his Eight album, good things.

The song is a pretty simple, straightforward R&B ( that's Rhythm and Blues folks! ) song, which maybe accounts for it's universal popularity.

Although the song is in the fairly tricky key of G# minor, I have transcribed it down four semitones to E minor - put a capo on the 4th fret if you want to play it in the original key. After transcription, the chords I've worked out are: Em, D, Am, and B7 for the Verse/chorus, with the 'bridge' being Bm, Em and Am.

I've posted the chords for "I need a dollar" to my Pop songs guitar chords at the link below:

Adele "Set Fire To The Rain" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

Yes, it's another Adele song, who'd have thought?! In fairness, she has just brought out a bunch of really good songs in rapid succession, so when looking for songs to add to my website, she's a Godsend!!

Another power-ballad, with nice melodic verse and bridge building up to an anthemic and memorable chorus. The original song is in the key of D minor - I have transcribed it to A minor to create an easier set of chords to play, so you would need to put a capo on the 5th fret to play along with Adele's version.

I've posted my transcription of "Set Fire To The Rain" to my Pop Songs guitar chords page at the link below:

Foo Fighters "Rope" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

"Rope" is the first single from the new Foo Fighters album "Wasting Light", and it's Dave and the boys doing what they do best - nifty riffs and chords, building up to the trademark anthemic chorus. It's the first Foo Fighters song I've added to PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics since "Wheels", almost two years ago.

It's great to see a classic rock band like the Foo Fighters still out there making good rock songs and releasing singles - I have been finding it really difficult in the past few years to use the charts as a source of good songs to work out on guitar, and I'm hearing fewer and fewer songs on radio that make me want to reach for my guitar.

Although it's not an obvious song for playing on acoustic guitar, I have worked out a set of chords which will hopefully be playable on either electric or acoustic ( no tabs for the lead solo, I'm afraid! ). The main body of the song is carried along with a set of 'triads' - three chords played in quick succession, i.e.:

Bm-D-Bm ; F#m-A-F#m ; Dm-C-Dm ; Dm-C-Dm ;

The chords in the pre-chorus and chorus are pretty straightforward, Bm, F#m, Dm, G, Em and A, with a nice little slide up at the end: G-G#m-A-Bb-Bm

I have uploaded my transcription of "Rope" to my Foo Fighters songs chords page, or at the link below:

Shine on you Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd are not a band whose songs lend themselves to being interpreted for just acoustic guitar and voice - my only other 'Floyd' song on guitarsongs.info is "Wish You Were Here", one of their few songs beloved by buskers worldwide, which is on my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page.

After watching a video on Facebook of Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott perform their version of the song, I decided to give it a go. I listened to a live version of the song by Dave Gilmore ( see below ), pretty much sat in awe thru the 5 min. 25 second instrumental intro, and worked the chords from the start of the first sung verse.

Chords are not the handiest - Gm, F#, Bb, Eb, Dm, Cm, F, C, D, Edim, so you'll be pretty much deploying barre chords most of the way, but it is a slow tempo song, so ideal for anyone who wants to learn some new chords, practice playing songs with lots of barre chords, and at the end of it all, be able to play a classic Pink Floyd rock song on your guitar.

I've added my chords and lyrics version of "Shine On to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

You can check out my version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamon" at the link below:

Shine on you Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd chords and lyrics

Biffy Clyro "Bubbles" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

This is my first attempt at chording a Biffy Clyro song - despite the fact that both of my daughters have been fans since they were a virtually unknown band more than 10 years ago! While I liked what I was hearing from them, I didn't think they had enough global appeal to be of interest to my site visitors or Blog readers.

Only in the past couple of years have the band become an 'overnight success', their last album "Only Revolutions" hitting the UK charts at number 8, and peaking at the number three spot.

"Bubbles" is actually the 5th single taken from the album, I must admit I haven't listented to it extensively, but it is certainly more commercial than the earlier stuff I'd heard, reminiscent of bands like Snow Patrol, Keane, with maybe a touch of Kings of Leon.

I have worked out my version of "Bubbles" - the song is in G sharp/A Flat, so I've worked it out with a capo on the 1st fret, which means you can play it with chords in the key of G, and still play along with the record. Chords are mostly simple - G, D, E minor 7, B minor, A, A sus4, and F#/Dsus4 ( which is not as tricky as it sounds, being 2x0233, i.e. play the Dsus4 chord and hold down the 2nd fret, 6th string with your thumb ).

Although it's a 'rock band' kind of song, you can have fun with it on an acoustic, and it still sounds good. My transcription of Bubbles is now on my Rock Songs guitar chords page at the link below

Manic Street Preachers "It's Not War" chords and lyrics

I have only a few Manic Street Preachers' songs - the last song of theirs I worked out and posted was in 2007!

I do quite like the band, and always have, but a lot of their songs haven't really been strong enough to make me want to play them. Only "If you Tolerate This" and "Your're love alone is not enough" have previously made it to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords page.

I do quite like the new single "(It's not War), Just the end of love", which I only heard a short while ago. It's a bit rockier than some of their older stuff, and the chords were quite tricky.

To make them reasonably playable, I had to transpose them down FIVE semitones, which means you will need to put your capo on the 5th fret if you want to play along with the original. Even at that, the intro has a little: C, C/Bb, Bb; Bb, Am, C riff which very early learners will probably find difficult. Of course, if you're just playing for fun, you can ignore the intro altogether, in which case the chords for the verse are: C, F and G, and the chorus chords are: Am F G, G G F (x2) and Em F.

The intro chords appear again as the riff after the 2nd chorus, but if you find them too tricky, you can just leave them out.

If you can get to grips with it, it's a fun song to play, and my interpretation is now on my Rock Songs guitar chords page at the link below

PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Pop Songs, Manic Street Preachers "(It's not war) Just the End of Love"

You should try playing along with the song above, or at YouTube - Manic Street Preachers "(It's Not War) Just the end of love". The band play the song in the key of F, but I've chorded it in C major, so you'll need to put a capo on the fifth fret to play along in the correct key.

Alicia Keys "Sleeping with a broken heart" Guitar chords and lyrics

Having not posted a song from Alicia Keys for over two years, I'm making up for it now by posting two in quick succession. I recently posted my interpretation of "Empire State of Mind (Part 2)" to my Pop Songs guitar chords page, and have now worked out the chords and lyrics to another great song from her "The Element of Freedom" album - "Sleeping With a Broken Heart". The song reached No. 2 in the U. S. R & B charts earlier this year.

Alicia sings the song in the key of F major, but I have transposed it to D major, to create an easier set of chords for beginners to play. If you want to play along with the song, just put a capo on the third fret, and you will be in key.

After transposing, the chords are very easy just G major, A major and D major in the verse, and G/F#, E minor, A major, D major and G major in the chorus. Don't worry about the G/F#, its just one of those transition chords leading from the G to the E minor and is shaped 2xx003, so from the G just remove your middle finger and place the index finger on the 2nd fret of the 6th string, muting the 5th and 4th.

I have posted my version of the chords and lyrics for "Sleeping With a Broken Heart" and added them to my Pop Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

Guitar Chords Mumford and Sons "Winter Winds"

This is my third effort at working out chords and lyrics for songs from the recent and brilliant "Sigh no More" album by London's "indie/folk/rock" band Mumford and Sons.

"Winter Winds" was the second single released from the album, and while it didn't meet with the chart success achieved with "Little Lion Man" or "The Cave" ( these being the previous songs I've worked out chords and lyrics for ), I think it's right up there with the others as a classic folk/rock song, with brilliant instrumentation and vocal harmonies, and once again an anthemic chorus to sing along to!

As for the other two, this is quite an easy song to play, with the verses being repeated G D Em C, and the chorus being a repeated C G C G D. Technically there is a C9 or C/D chord in there too ( which is played as 032030 ) and the G chord sounds best played as 320033 rather than 320003.

I have worked out my version of the chords and lyrics for "Winter Winds" and added them to my Rock Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

Paolo Nutini "Ten out of Ten" Guitar Chords

Paolo Nutini is a really versatile artist, and singer-songwriter. Having first attracted my attention with his wispy ballads from his debut album "These Streets" - especially "Last Request" and "New Shoes", and the debut single "Candy" from "Sunny Side Up", he certainly got into the spirit of the Summer of 2010 with his latest singles.

"Pencil Full of Lead" was a bright and breezy single which I posted a short while ago to my Paolo Nutini guitar song chords page, where I also have chords and lyrics for "Last Request", "New Shoes", "Worried Man" and "Candy".

His new single "Ten out of Ten" ( 10/10 ) is equally bouncy, with a light ska / reggae rythm reminiscent of Madness' "The Prince" and of course with Paolo's distinctive vocal, which always sounds like he's having a good time!

I've worked out the chords and lyrics for "Ten out of Ten" - chords are really easy and very suited to learning guitar players - just combinations of C, G and F - and I've posted them to my Paolo Nutini Song chords and lyrics page at the link below

Plan B "She Said" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

I really never thought this day would arrive. I'm transcribing a song which features a hip-hop interlude. Regular readers of this blog ( now picking themselves up from the floor and reaching for the smelling salts ) will know that I am very much *not* a fan of hip-hop - particularly when it spoils a perfectly good song, usually a nice soul ballad with a female vocal.

To be honest, when I first heard Plan B's "She Said" this was exactly what I thought I was hearing. Then I saw the band perform on a TV show, and was amazed that both the silky soulful voice and the "Brit-hip-hop" spoken part were being performed by the same guy - Ben Drew.

Anywaze, the song grew on me - even the rap didn't grate so much, so I've decided it's worth including on my website. "She said" is the second single from "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", a concept album about a British soul singer who finds fame, but ends up in prison for a crime he didn't commit, as portrayed in the video for the song ( below ).

I decided the best location for my chords and lyrics version of the songs was on my Soul, R&B song chords page - you can check it out at the link below:

Carolina Liar "Show me what I'm looking for" chords and lyrics

"Show me what I'm looking for" was the first single from "Coming To Terms", the debut album by Caroloina Liar, a Rock Band from L.A. via Sweden.

Have to say when I first heard the song, I was sure it was Coldplay, there is a really marked similarity in the sound.

Having said that, it's a really good song, and I've worked out a version which is really easy to play, with just chords F, Am, C and G.

I've posted my version of "Show me what I'm looking for" in simple chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Temper Trap "Sweet Disposition" chords and lyrics

With the shortage of guitar bands getting airplay on radio or making into the charts, I find myself trying to work out guitar versions of songs from other genres, such as Owl City's "Fireflies" ( see previous post ) and the techno-pop "Sweet Dispostion" by Australian band Temper Trap, from their debut album "Conditions"

While the strumming patterns required to play this on guitar can be tricky, the chords themselves are very playable - D, Bm, G, and A. You can actually get away with just playing straight down-up strums throughout, unless you want to be brave and double-up as the tempo of the song speeds up!

Temper Trap were chosen by BBC (UK) as one of their 15 "Sounds of 2009"

I've uploaded my guitar chords interpretation of "Sweet Surrender" to my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man"

I've only recently had the pleasure of hearing "Sigh no More", the debut album from London "Indie/Folk" band, Mumford and Sons. Although they have been labelled Indie/Folk or Folk/Rock, there sound is unique, not really reminiscent of any of the Folk-Rock bands from the 60s and 70s.

Great melodies, and great lyrics performed on guitar, double bass, banjo and keyboards, this is just such a catchy song I had to learn it!

Easy chords too, Am, C, G, F, Fmaj7 ( x33210 ) - that's it, these chords cover verses and chorus.

I have worked out my version of the chords and lyrics for "Little Lion Man" and added them to my Rock Songs guitar songs page at the link below:

The Fratellis "Milk and Money" guitar chords

The second Fratellis album "Here we Stand" never quite got to me in the way that the debut album "Costello Music" did. Never sure why? I suppose when any band produces such a brilliant first album, topping it is always gonna be difficult.

But I have previously posted a couple of the gems to my Fratellis song chords page - "Look out Sunshine" and "Mistress Mabel", the first two singles from the album.

Just giving it a fresh listen, and the track that stood out this time was "Milk and Money", which has a lyrical ballady bit, and ends with the usual raucous rumpus you expect from Glasgow's finest.

I've worked out my interpretation of the chords and lyrics of "Milk and Money", and added it to my Fratellis song chords page:

The Fratellis guitar chords and lyrics - Milk and Money

Chords are quite playable, even for 'newbie' players, with the verse consisting of C Am Dm G, and the Chorus having C C7 F Fm. Even the frenetic bit at the end ( which you might wanna avoid if your playing on acoustic ) only uses chords Am G F and Em - but the chord changes can be hard to catch just right!

Muse "Uprising" guitar chords and lyrics

Strangely enough, this is the first song I've posted from Devon's finest alternative rockers Muse. I guess I didn't really see them as a 'guitar band', or at least thought their songs weren't suited to early learners and acoustic players. Their earlier stuff sounded very close to Radiohead ( not that that's a bad thing! ), but on their newer songs, particularly the 2009 album Resistance, from which Uprising is taken, they have most certainly stamped their own sound.

Uprising can sound fine without the synth effects, and has only 4 chords - Dm, Gm, F and A, so should be within the grasp of most early learning guitarists.

I've worked out chords for "Uprising" for my Rock songs chords page, you can find it at the link below:

Rory Gallagher "If the day was any longer" chords

I received a request for a Rory Gallagher song, from his days with Taste, the song being "If the day was any longer" from the 1970 "On the Boards" album.

While I do have a Rory Gallagher song chords page on my guitar chords and lyrics website, I don't have a great many Rory songs, as my site is primarily aimed at learning guitarists, and the songs are in simple chords and lyrics format, not usually suited to Rory's unique and complex sound.

When I played the song on YouTube however, I actually remembered it, and it's one of those gorgeous mellow bluesy ballads Rory used to play as part of the acoustic section of his gigs.

So I was able to work out a version just using chords E, E7, A, G and B7, which should make it playable for most learning guitarists.

I have posted the song to www.guitarsongs.info at the link below:

Semisonic "(It's) Closing Time" guitar chords & lyrics

Heard this one on the radio recently - I remembered the song but couldn't be sure who was singing it.

So I searched around, and the first information I got was that it was Greenday. I searched YouTube, and sure enough it came up as a Greenday song. I worked out the chords and lyrics, and posted them to my Greenday guitar chords page.

But, I was pretty sure that it wasn't Billie Joe Armstrong singing the song, even tho' the overall song structure was very 'Greenday-like', rock ballad chords building up to crunchy power chords. Searched again and found an equal number of 'yes it is / no it isn't Greenday', or it's a Greenday cover of a Semisonic Song, or it's Dan Wilson doing guest vocals for Greenday.

I've always found Wikipedia to be pretty reliable in these matters: "'Closing Time' is a song by Semisonic from their album Feeling Strangely Fine. It is sometimes misattributed to Green Day".

From the guitarists point of view, it's just a great song to learn and play. For the non-believers, I've left on on my Greenday song chords page, but have now added it to my Rock songs guitar chords page, at the link below:

Guitar chords and lyrics for 'Closing Time' by Semisonic Chords are nice & simple, just G, D, Am, C throughout, with an A major and a Dsus2 ( x00230 ) as the bridge.

I always recommend that you play along with the song (above) or on the YouTube video

Snow Patrol "Just say Yes" chords and lyrics

Snow Patrol are one of those bands who I really like, but maybe not in my 'Top 10', but I always enjoy playing Snow Patrol songs on my guitar, so I was thrilled to find out that they're releasing a new compilation album "Up To Now" this month, with studio tracks, B sides and three brand new songs, the first of which "Just Say Yes" will be their new single.

Never one to let the grass grow under my feet, I've got off the blocks quickly, and worked out my chords and lyrics version of "Just Say Yes" . Snow Patrol songs don't tend to be too difficult to play - this one is no exception, with just the chords A, D, F#m, D throughout the entire song ( or if you're an early learner and find the F#m a bit tricky, you can put your capo on the 2nd fret and play G, C, Em, C ).

I've posted my version of "Just Say Yes" to my Snow Patrol Song Chords page, please feel free to check it out.

Try playing along with the video above, or at YouTube - Snow Patrol "Just say Yes"

You can find the official Snow Patrol website at: http://www.snowpatrol.com/

Rory Gallagher "I'm not awake yet" chords & lyrics

Once again, somewhat 'punching above my weight' with this, but it's a great song by one of my favourite all-time artists, and I am a huge Rory Gallagher fan, and I actually have a Rory Gallagher chords page on my website.

Ok, I know my version of the song is a bit light, with just chords and lyrics and the short solo, but if you can even aspire to playing the solo at the end of the song, well ... you probably shouldn't be reading this! I think the song can work well as an acoustic number, if you can figure any neat embellishments to add to the sound, so much the better.

But, I've worked out my usual "chords and lyrics" version of the song, if you want to try it out, click on the link below:

Iron and Wine - Love Vigilantes

I am only a recent convert to the silky voice and fantastic songwriting of Sam Beam, a.k.a. "Iron and Wine", but I had already worked out and posted four of his songs to my Rock Songs guitar chords page, and I've now worked out chords and lyrics for Love Vigilantes, from the new album "Around The Well", and posted them to the link below.

Guitar Chords and Lyrics to Iron and Wine "Love Vigilantes"

If this video doesn't play, you can play along with the song on Youtube - Iron & Wine "Love Vigilantes".
