Two cracking songs to rework today, as I move on to my Rolling Stones chords page.
First up is probably my favourite Stones song, "Brown Sugar", but it's a song I always struggled to play on Acoustic guitar.
The song is actually in the key of C - I had previously chorded it in D, but when I tried transposing the chords, they seemed pretty tricky. So, I transposed the whole thing to A, and put a Capo on 3rd Fret to bring it up to C.
When I tried playing along with Angie from my old transcription, it just didn't sit right, so I spent quite a while painstakingly listening to the song on Youtube, nailing a chord or two, rewinding, double-checking, until I finally arrived at a chorded version of the song I'm happy with.
Actually - "rewinding", that probably isn't even a word anymore! Comes from the days when I'd tape songs from radio to cassette tape, play, stop, rewind, pause, play, stop.... oh the pain of it all! But, that was the only game in town back then, it's so much easier now that almost all songs are available to play along with, which was the main reason for my undertaking this exercise in updating and correcting my song chord transcriptions.
The converted and updated pages with these songs are at the links below, and videos for both songs have been embedded. The songs are chorded in the correct key for playing along with the video.
"Brown Sugar" chords ( relative to the Capo on 3rd Fret ) are - Esus4 E A Asus4 C F G D - a much easier set of chords than my previous version ( see Guitar Chords for Brown Sugar )
"Angie" chords are: Am E7 G F C Dm C/B - again not too tough a group of chords for beginners ( see Guitar Chords for Angie )
These new versions are now available on my Rolling Stones guitar chords page, along with another dozen or so, I will get around to the others as time allows. You can find all of my Rolling Stones songs guitar transcriptions at the link below:

Guitar Chords - Creedence Clearwater Revival: Up Around The Bend & Long as I Can See The Light
It's a lotta fun, this blogging lark - yesterday I was 'Up the Junction' with Squeeze, today I'm going 'Up around the Bend' with Creedence Clearwater Revival!!
I'm reworking two of the classic songs on my Creedence guitar chords page - "Up around the Bend" and "Long as I can see the Light"
First thing I discovered was that I had both songs in the wrong key. These would have been worked out in pre-YouTube days, back then I was just working the keys and chords from my memories of the song, it's so much easier now that you can listen to pretty much every song on YouTube while working out the chords.
There were also a few endline 'filler' chords I'd omitted, which make the song sound more complete. I converted the text files to web files, added links to the parent and home page, and embedded the videos to play along with.
The converted and updated pages with these songs are at the links below, and videos for both songs have been embedded. The songs are chorded in the correct key for playing along with the video.
"Up Around The Bend" chords are - D A A7 G and F#m, a nice easy set of chords for learning guitar players. ( see Guitar Chords for Up Around The Bend )
"Long as I can see the Light" chords are ( relative to capo on 2nd fret ) A E D and F#m, also a handy enough bunch of chords for beginners ( see Guitar Chords for Long as I can see the Light )
These new versions are now available on my Creedence Clearwater Revival guitar chords page, along with another 10 or so, I'll be revisiting the page to 'fix up' these songs ASAP. You can find all of my Creedence songs guitar transcriptions at the link below:

Chords and lyrics for Neil Young "Harvest" and "Harvest Moon"
Today's attention is drawn to my Neil Young page, and I've taken two of my many favourites, both to listen to and play - "Harvest" and "Harvest Moon", validated and corrected my transcriptions, converted them from text to website format, and embedded the Youtube videos of the songs in each new web page.
No major transcription changes, both songs are in native D major. Slight doubt about the endline of the verse and chorus of Harvest "... promise of a man", which I had chorded with D and A, but as I listen to the song, Neil seems to remain on the D for all of the end of the line. I've notated it as D (A), as I find it more natural to play the A chord myself - try playing it both ways yourself, see which you think sounds better for you.
The converted and updated pages with these songs are at the links below, and videos for both songs have been embedded. The songs are chorded in the correct key for playing along with the video.
"Harvest" chords are - D A G Bm and E - a nice easy set of chords for learning guitarists ( see Guitar Chords for Harvest )
"Harvest Moon" chords are D D/B ( 004232 ) Dmaj7 Em7 G A7sus4 (002030) and A7 ( see Guitar Chords for Harvest Moon )
These new versions are now available on my Neil Young guitar chords page, along with a bunch more which will be tackled later.. You can find all of my Neil Young songs guitar transcriptions at the link below:

Guitar chords for Lou Reed "Perfect Day" and "Satellite of Love"
Once again, venturing back into the prairies of songs on my site, replacing the text files with web file, embedding videos, correcting chords and lyrics where appropriate, and transposing to the key of the original song on video, to make it easier for learning guitarists to pick up the song by playing along with the original artist.
It's like meeting old friends at times, songs I've always loved, but haven't gotten around to playing myself in a long time. My site is deliberately eclectic - I had the choice at the beginning ( 15 years ago! ) of accepting submissions from everyone and building the site as a 'warehouse' of songs, or only including songs I like and enjoy playing, and where I have worked out the chords and lyrics myself.
I opted for 'eclectic', and while you won't find every song ever written ( or every artist ), I have a wide enough taste to ensure that most visitors find chords for at least a bunch of songs they want to play, among the 2,000 odd I have available.
Working on the Lou Reed page today, and I have re-transcribed two of my all-time favourite songs "Perfect Day" and "Satellite of Love". Neither of the songs were in the original key ( I had transcribed them to suit my own voice ), so I've changed "Perfect Day" from A minor to Bb minor, by the addition of a Capo on the first fret, and for 'Satellite of Love', which I'd always played in G, but which is actually in F, I transcribed it to D, indicating a Capo on the 3rd, as playing in F would have led to some tricky chords.
The new pages containing these songs are at the links below, and videos for both songs have been embedded. The songs are chorded in the correct key for playing along with the video.
"Perfect Day" chords ( relative to Capo ) are - Am G C F Dm E A Amaj7 Dmaj7 D6 and F#m ( see Guitar Chords for Perfect Day )
"Satellite Of Love" chords ( relative to Capo ) are D E G A Bm and Em - a nice easy set of chords for beginners ( see Guitar Chords for Satellite of Love )

Guitar chords for Blur "Country House" and "Parklife"
I was fortunate enough during the 'Britpop battle' between Blur and Oasis in the 90s to actually really like both bands, so I have Blur and Oasis song chord pages on my website.
The Blur page is the subject of today's attention, I have coverted the text pages for "Country House" and "Parklife", in the process correcting some errors and omissions, including patiently placing the chords in the correct places for the spoken-word parts of "Parklife".
The new pages containing these songs are at the links below, and videos for both songs have been embedded. The songs are chorded in the correct key for playing along with the video.
"Country House features chords - A E Bm D C#7 C# E and E7 ( see Guitar Chords for Country House )
"Parklife" has chords - E A Bb B G F# D and C ( see Guitar Chords for Parklife )
These new versions have been added to the other Blur songs on the page, which I'll be reviewing at a later date, you can find them all at the link below:

Guitar Chords for Randy Newman "Jolly Coppers" and "My Old Kentucky Home"
Continuing with my improvement and audit project for the older songs on my website PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics , today I'm taking two songs from my Randy Newman page, "Jolly Coppers" ( from the "Little Criminals" album ) and "My Old Kentucky Home" ( from the "12 Songs" album )
You can check out the updated pages with these songs, complete with embedded videos of the songs to play along with, at the links below.
Note: for "Jolly Coppers", I've chorded the song in the key of G - in the video Randy plays it in F#. This would lead to a really complex set of chords, so I figure most learning guitarists would prefer to play it in G, just a semitone higher. This means that to play along with the video, you will need to tune each string on your guitar down one semitone, i.e. Eb Ab C# F# Bb Eb ( or put a capo on the 11th fret! ). In this case it would be best to just listen to the song, learn the rhythms, strumming patterns and vocal nuances, and then pick up the guitar and try to play the song in G, having learned how the song should sound and 'feel'.
"Jolly Coppers" features the chords G D6 ( x00230 ) Cmaj7 Am7 Em7 Bm7 C and C/D ( 030210 ) ( see Guitar Chords for Jolly Coppers )
"My Old Kentucky Home" can be played with just the chords G D7 and C ( with Capo on 2nd Fret ). You could play without Capo, using chords A E7 and D, but I thing the song sounds better played in the key of G, see Guitar Chords for My Old Kentucky Home )
I've added these transcriptions to the other Randy Newman songs on the page, which will be updated later, you can find them all at the link below:

MGMT "Kids" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
I honestly thought I had worked out the chords for "Kids" a long time ago - when the song was always on the radio. But I received a request on Facebook for the chords of the song, and discovered that it was one of the 'ones that got away'.
It's too good a song not to have on my site, so I've remedied the situation and posted my version of the song chords and lyrics to my Rock Songs guitar chords page on my website. Check it out at the link below:
Guitar chords and lyrics to "Kids" by MGMT
The chords for "Kids" are very simple, F#m, D, A and E throughout, except for the bridge, which also features a B major chord.
Try playing along with the video above, or on Youtube at MGMT "Kids" on YouTube

Sade "Still In Love With You" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
Following a return from over 10 years of retirement, and the release of a new album "Soldier of Love", Sade have released a brilliant compilation album, "The Ultimate Collection", featuring all of the old classics ( including my own personal favourite "By Your Side".
As well as providing all your favourite Sade songs on one album, there is also the inclusion of an absolutely gorgeous cover of a ( to me at least ) lesser-known Thin Lizzy song "Still in Love with You". Since hearing the cover, I have checked out the original, which is brilliant, but when you listen to the cover version it just sounds like the song was written for Sade's smooth and smoky vocals.
The chords for the song are straightforward enough - Am, D, Dm, G, C, C/B and Am7, with a single Fmaj7 right at the end, although as indicated in my transcription, you can alter these chords slightly for a bluesier sound.
I've posted my interpretation of Sade's cover of "Still in Love With You" to my Sade song chords page, or at the link below:

Foo Fighters "Rope" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
"Rope" is the first single from the new Foo Fighters album "Wasting Light", and it's Dave and the boys doing what they do best - nifty riffs and chords, building up to the trademark anthemic chorus. It's the first Foo Fighters song I've added to PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics since "Wheels", almost two years ago.
It's great to see a classic rock band like the Foo Fighters still out there making good rock songs and releasing singles - I have been finding it really difficult in the past few years to use the charts as a source of good songs to work out on guitar, and I'm hearing fewer and fewer songs on radio that make me want to reach for my guitar.
Although it's not an obvious song for playing on acoustic guitar, I have worked out a set of chords which will hopefully be playable on either electric or acoustic ( no tabs for the lead solo, I'm afraid! ). The main body of the song is carried along with a set of 'triads' - three chords played in quick succession, i.e.:
Bm-D-Bm ; F#m-A-F#m ; Dm-C-Dm ; Dm-C-Dm ;
The chords in the pre-chorus and chorus are pretty straightforward, Bm, F#m, Dm, G, Em and A, with a nice little slide up at the end: G-G#m-A-Bb-Bm
I have uploaded my transcription of "Rope" to my Foo Fighters songs chords page, or at the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics "Aretha" by Rumer
Rumer is a British female pop/soul singer born in Pakistan. Her voice has been compared to many great female singers, including the late Karen Carpenter, but her vocals are a unique brand of sweet, bluesy and sultry, and I believe she will go on to be a huge star in her own right.
I had previously posted my chords and lyrics version of her first single "Slow", from her debut album "Seasons of the Soul". "Aretha" is the second single taken from the album, and is another gorgeous soulful ballad.
Rumer is already a hit with some top names in the business, having toured with Jools Holland and Joshua Radin among others, and has the distinction of having had a number of songs written especially for her by the great Burt Bacharach.
I have worked out my chords and lyrics version of "Aretha", and added it to my Soul Songs Guitar Chords page at the link below. The song is in the key of F major, which means there is a tricky enough selection of chords involved.
The chords are F, B flat, G minor, E flat, E flat minor, D minor and C minor. I would normally suggest transcription to a lower key, using a capo to bring the pitch up to the correct key, but in the final verse there is a key change from F to G, the chords here being G, C, A minor, F, F minor, D minor, and E7th.
Transcription would produce an easier set of chords for the main body of the song, but even more difficult chords for the last verse. In any case, the original chords just fit the bluesy feel of the song, so it is worth while putting in the extra effort to practice these chords.
You can try out my version of the song at the link below:

Travis "Humpty Dumpty Love Song" Chords and Lyrics
I had previously worked out and posted chords and lyrics to Travis' "Flowers in the Window", "Side" and "Sing" from their "Invisible Band" album to my Travis song chords page, but had never actually listened to the album, other than those three singles.
My niece recently posted a YouTube video of the song "Humpty Dumpty Love Song", which is the last track on the album, and is actually one of the best Travis songs I've heard yet.
Chords are interesting, and not too tricky, verse is: C, G, Em, Am, F, Fm, C ; Chorus is just Am and C, and the Bridge is A, Dm, Dsus4, G7 and G. I have diagrams of all of the chords included.
I've added my transcription to the other nine songs on my Travis guitar chords page, you can find them all at the link below:

Plan B "She Said" Guitar Chords and Lyrics
I really never thought this day would arrive. I'm transcribing a song which features a hip-hop interlude. Regular readers of this blog ( now picking themselves up from the floor and reaching for the smelling salts ) will know that I am very much *not* a fan of hip-hop - particularly when it spoils a perfectly good song, usually a nice soul ballad with a female vocal.
To be honest, when I first heard Plan B's "She Said" this was exactly what I thought I was hearing. Then I saw the band perform on a TV show, and was amazed that both the silky soulful voice and the "Brit-hip-hop" spoken part were being performed by the same guy - Ben Drew.
Anywaze, the song grew on me - even the rap didn't grate so much, so I've decided it's worth including on my website. "She said" is the second single from "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", a concept album about a British soul singer who finds fame, but ends up in prison for a crime he didn't commit, as portrayed in the video for the song ( below ).
I decided the best location for my chords and lyrics version of the songs was on my Soul, R&B song chords page - you can check it out at the link below:

John Mayer "Heartbreak Warfare"
Ok, I will always have an affection for John Mayer's earlier works, the songs on "Room for Squares" and "Heavier Things" were almost all classics. "Continuum" seemed to bring him closer to mainstream, albeit with a bluesy edge - on the plus side, these songs were less intricate, and a little easier for the learning guitarist to get to grips with.
His latest album "Battle Studies" sees him return to his strenghths. "Heartbreak Warfare" is the 2nd single from the album ( I had already posted my interpretation of the debut single "Who Says" to my John Mayer song chords page. While it is reminiscent of some of the earlier songs, the warm fuzzy lyrics ( "Your body is a wonderland", "Come back to bed" ) have had a healthy injection of cynicism which, I think, adds strength and depth to the songs.
While the range of chords will probably be beyond the scope of the very early learner, don't be put off by the number and apparent complexity of the chords if you have a reasonable repertoire of chords - these are mainly 'sus2' and 'Maj7' chords. The notes shown after the '/' indicate the addition of an additional bass note, but if you find this a bit of a stretch, just try playing the standard Dsus2 or Fmaj7 chord, learn the song, and work on the embellishments at a later stage.
I've indicated the finger positions for the chords at the start of the transcription, showing the frets to be held for each string, thickest to thinnest, so that Asus2=x02200 means 'mute the bass E string, leave A string open, hold down 2nd fret on D and G strings, and play the B and treble E strings open.
I've added this to my list of 17 songs, covering all 3 albums, on my John Mayer page at the link below:

Lady Lenka - The Show chords and lyrics
This is another one of those really good songs I first heard on a TV advert, though I can't actually remember what the ad was for! Took me a while to locate it, as I thought it was called "Caught in the middle", but a search on the always reliable Wikipedia set me straight.
It's just a really nice bubbly pop song, easy to play, and one I can imagine many people would enjoy playing.
The chords are very straightforward - C, G, Am and F, and there is an infectious dum-de-dum ending part, that your audience are bound to sing along to!

Greenday - "21 Guns" chords and lyrics
Greenday were the one of the bands who got me back into listening to music again in the 90s, with their punchy songs and anthemic choruses.
I wasn't a huge fan of their "American Idiot" album, although I did post the chords and lyrics for the title song plus "Holiday", "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to my Greenday song chords page - just one of those albums with a few gems, and some fairly forgettable songs.
Their latest album, "21st Century Breakdown", although again it's a "Rock Opera", I think it's overall a better collection of songs, I hope to work out a bunch of playable versions over the next few weeks.
For the moment I have transcribed and added "21 Guns" to my Greenday guitar chords site page. The chords are not too tricky, being Dm, A# (Bb), F and C, with a D thrown into the chorus and an A# minor ( Bb minor) appearing in the bridge. It's quite a slow tempo song, so even early learners get a chance to make the chord changes in time!
You can find "21 Guns" on my Guitar Chords & Lyrics website, on the Greenday page.
If the embedded video above doesn't play correctly, you can check it out on this YouTube - Greenday 21 Guns link.
BTW - If you are a wannabe lead guitar player, you really should check out James Todd's Guitar Leads website, it is a really excellent resource for guitarists of all levels to acquire or improve their lead guitar playing skills.

Aqualung - Breaking My Heart guitar chords and lyrics
This is my third post of an Aqualung song, following earlier transcriptions of "Brighter Than Sunshine" and "Strange and Beautiful". Aqualung is the stage name of singer-songwriter Matthew Hales, who really only hit public prominence when "Strange and Beautiful" featured as the song for the VW Beetle TV ad, and went on to be a UK top 10 hit.
If you're not familiar with Aqualung, check out their songs on YouTube, if you like 'em, see if my interpretations are useful in helping you to play the songs.

The Shins - Sea Legs chords & lyrics
My last Shins post was "Strange Powers", which actually didn't feature on "Wincing The Night Away", but was the B side of this song, "Sea Legs", the 4th single from that album.
As with almost all of the Shins songs, the quirky intricacies of the lyrics and melodies suggest that they would be hard songs to play, but again, this song has only 4 chords - G, D, A# ( Bb) and F. The rhythm of the chords sometimes seems to go counter to the melody, but it just takes a little getting used to!
You can find my version of The Shins "Sea Legs" on my guitar chords website at the link below:

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal chords and lyrics
The Fleet Foxes ( another debutant band for my site ) are one of the new breed of 'Social Web' artists who, like Colbie Caillet, rose to prominence principally through the exposure of their music on their MySpace page, culiminating in the release of their debut album "Fleet Foxes" last year.
I've worked out a playable chords and lyrics version of the first single from the album, you can check it out at the link below:

Missing songs from Chordie
Those of you who regularly use Chordie will have seen frequent messages for several songs indicating that "The person hosting these songs has asked them to be removed from the Chordie index"
Apologies, but I am that person! I'm sorry if you've been frustrated by seeing these messages instead of your requested song chords, but permission was never given to Chordie to use these songs, and they have graciously removed them at my request.
I would have preferred if they had instead replaced their pages with links to my original transcriptions, but this was unfortunately not possible.
Anywaze, you can find all 1,800 of 'em at PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics - http://www.guitarsongs.info/. Or just search for PJs Chords.
While there are many 'warehouse' song chord and tab sites out there, my site is based on accurate chord interpretations of an eclectic selection of my favourite songs and artists from the 60's right up to songs in the current charts.

P.S. I've received one post from a Chordie fan which was 'less than complimentary'. Just want to say that this post was not to 'diss' Chordie in any way, it is an excellent site, and I have had a great working relationship with Per & Co for many years. But 'an unexpected error occurred', resulting in all of my efforts of 10 years being subsumed into the Chordie 'engine'. Per has corrected this, but has left the links pointing to an apology. I'm just trying to make sure people who have reached these pages know that the songs have not just disappeared, and let them know where to find them.
Ok J??
