Snow Patrol "Take back the city" chords and lyrics

Love to play Snow Patrol songs on my guitar, so I was delighted to hear they're releasing a new album "A Hundred Million Suns" last month, I've only had a quick 'listen-thru', but it sounds great, and I'm hoping I'll be able to work out playable versions of some of the songs.

I've got the ball rolling with the new single "Take back the city". If you're an early learner you may be put off by the number of 'sus' chords throughout the song, but I have provided the diagrams for these chords at the beginning of the song - once you get familiar with the shapes and can get into the rhythm with which they carry the verses along, you'll be fine!

I've posted the song to my Snow Patrol Song Chords page, please feel free to check it out.

You can find the official Snow Patrol website at: http://www.snowpatrol.com/

Iron & Wine - 16, maybe less chords and lyrics

I posted my first Iron & Wine songs in May ( "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" and "Passing Afternoon" ) having just recently started to listen to the band.

I've liked everything I've heard so far, so I plan to keep listening, and working out playable versions of their songs, beginning this month with "Sixteen, maybe less" from their joint venture with Calexico, "In the Reins".

The chords are pretty simple, just D, Bm, G and A - although I have transcribed to C, Am, F and G, with capo on the 2nd fret. I suspect this is how the original was played, as there are nice little runs between the C and Am, that lend the song to being played in the key of C.

You can check out my chords and lyrics interpretation of "16, Maybe Less" on my Rock Guitar song chords page at the link below:

The Shins - Sea Legs chords & lyrics

My last Shins post was "Strange Powers", which actually didn't feature on "Wincing The Night Away", but was the B side of this song, "Sea Legs", the 4th single from that album.

As with almost all of the Shins songs, the quirky intricacies of the lyrics and melodies suggest that they would be hard songs to play, but again, this song has only 4 chords - G, D, A# ( Bb) and F. The rhythm of the chords sometimes seems to go counter to the melody, but it just takes a little getting used to!

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal chords and lyrics

The Fleet Foxes ( another debutant band for my site ) are one of the new breed of 'Social Web' artists who, like Colbie Caillet, rose to prominence principally through the exposure of their music on their MySpace page, culiminating in the release of their debut album "Fleet Foxes" last year.

I've worked out a playable chords and lyrics version of the first single from the album, you can check it out at the link below:

Missing songs from Chordie

Those of you who regularly use Chordie will have seen frequent messages for several songs indicating that "The person hosting these songs has asked them to be removed from the Chordie index"

Apologies, but I am that person! I'm sorry if you've been frustrated by seeing these messages instead of your requested song chords, but permission was never given to Chordie to use these songs, and they have graciously removed them at my request.

I would have preferred if they had instead replaced their pages with links to my original transcriptions, but this was unfortunately not possible.

Anywaze, you can find all 1,800 of 'em at PJ's Guitar Chords and Lyrics - http://www.guitarsongs.info/. Or just search for PJs Chords.

While there are many 'warehouse' song chord and tab sites out there, my site is based on accurate chord interpretations of an eclectic selection of my favourite songs and artists from the 60's right up to songs in the current charts.

~~~~
P.S. I've received one post from a Chordie fan which was 'less than complimentary'. Just want to say that this post was not to 'diss' Chordie in any way, it is an excellent site, and I have had a great working relationship with Per & Co for many years. But 'an unexpected error occurred', resulting in all of my efforts of 10 years being subsumed into the Chordie 'engine'. Per has corrected this, but has left the links pointing to an apology. I'm just trying to make sure people who have reached these pages know that the songs have not just disappeared, and let them know where to find them.
Ok J??
Midlake - "Roscoe" guitar chords and lyrics
Another 'debut' band for my site! Not that Midlake are a new band ( formed in 1999, according to the ever-reliable Wikipedia ). Hailing from Texas, they list Radiohead, Jethro Tull, Grandaddy and Travis amongst their influences, which was good enough for me to give them a listen.
I liked what I heard too. I could hear the 'Tull influences in "Roscoe", but also, I thought, a hint of the Shins in the vocals and the melody.
The song has a nice gentle flow to it, and with just three chords, is pretty playable, although the chords of G#m, F# and E might be a bit daunting to early learners. If you are among this group, you should learn to transpose songs like this to an easier key, and use your capo ( if necessary ) to bring the song pitch up to the original key.
In this case I would replace the G#m, F# and E with Em, D and C ( in that order ) and put a capo on the 4th fret, so that you're playing Em shape, but actually playing a G#m chord. Check out my beginners guide to chord transposition, you will hopefully find it useful!
I have uploaded my interpretation of Midlake's "Roscoe" to my rock guitar songs page at the link below:
Bat for Lashes - "Daniel" guitar chords and Lyrics
I had been aware of "Bat for Lashes" for quite a while, they'd played Glastonbury in 2007, won the ASCAP Vanguard award the same year, toured with Radiohead and was nominated for two Brit Awards last year, but I only heard them for the first time on "Later with Jools Holland" on BBC TV, singing "Daniel". Either they aren't getting the radio coverage they deserve, or I'm not listening to enough radio!
I think they are a great band, and this is a great song! Just checking out Wikipedia's page for the band, comparisons have been made with Bjork, PJ Harvey, Annie Lennox, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Stevie Nicks and Dolores O'Riordan. Not bad company to be keeping!
The song itself is really melodic and moves along at a nice pace. The version I heard was in the key of E / G#m, but I've transcribed it to G / Em, which means the chords are a more playable set of Em, G, C, Am. These are repeated throughout both verse and chorus, making it a really easy song to learn and play. Just put your capo on the 4th fret and play the 'G' chords as indicated, and you will be able to play along with the 'real' version in E major / G minor.
I've posted my version of the song to my Pop Guitar Songs page at the link below:
Wilco - 'My Darling' guitar chords and lyrics
So far I've mainly been working out and including Wilco songs from "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot", this having been the album which ( somewhat belatedly ) got me hooked.
The plan was to move forward thru the newer albums, but I don't make any apologies for now including the gorgeous "My Darling", from the even earlier "Summerteeth Album".
My musical taste for anything post-1990 has been mainly informed by my gorgeous daughters, who are both Wilco fans, and "My Darling" is a really beautiful song from a parent to their child, which I'd like to dedicate to them. I know, I know, you didn't have me pegged as the schmaltzy type - it's a Father thing.... But it is a lovely, simple song, with pretty basic guitar chords - C, Em, D, G, F.
You can find my chords and lyrics interpretation of "My Darling" on my Wilco page (below):
Check out the songs on YouTube, hopefully these interpretations can help you play along with the songs while learning them.
