Florence and the Machine - "You've got the Love" chords and lyrics

Having posted my first Florence and the Machine song transcription ( Dog Days are Over ) just a short while ago, I have every intention of posting more songs by the brilliant Florence Welch, who won the Critics Choice award at last year's Brit Awards, and have now worked out chords and lyrics for "You've got the love", the fifth single from the fabulous debut album "Lungs".

The song itself has certainly been around, having been recorded previously by The Source, Candi Staton and Joss Stone.

The song is in the somewhat tricky key of B flat ( F minor ), so I have transposed it down a semitone to A ( E minor ), which makes it much more playable, particularly for early learners. Just put your Capo on the first fret if you want to try playing along with the song. After transcription, the chords are just Em, D and A - a really easy sequence for beginners.

I've posted my interpretation of "Dog Days are Over" in simple chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, just click on the link below:

Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Cathy Davey "Little Red"

Cathy Davey is a singer-songwriter from Dublin, Ireland, who first came to my attention when I heard "Reuben", which was a No. 1 single from her second album "Tales of Silversleeve ( Irish album of the year 2007 ). Loved the song, so I worked out the chords and lyrics and posted them to my Pop Songs guitar chords page.

Hadn't really heard much more of her work until "Little Red" hit the radio waves, having been released as the first single from her new album "The Nameless". Another bouncy, catchy song - I will have to check out the other songs on this album, particularly the new single "Army of Tears", which I've yet to hear.

Anywaze, I have worked out a playable version of "Little Red", and posted it to my Guitar Chords and Lyrics website at the link below. Nice easy set of chords, just G, Em for much of the song, with C, A and D featuring in the chorus. Trickiest part for me was trying to reach those high notes on the "Oooooooo, Oooooooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" bits!

Soft Cell/ Marilyn Manson "Tainted Love" chords & lyrics

I received a request from a Facebook friend for the guitar chords and lyrics of "Tainted Love" - the request didn't specify whether it was the Marc Almond and Soft Cell version or the later Marilyn Manson version which was required, but the basic chords and lyrics are pretty much the same in any case. Actually, checking on Wikipedia the original version of the song was recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965 - I'd always thought it was a Soft Cell original.

I was never a great fan of Soft Cell, or of any of the "New Romantics" back in that musical desert known as "The Eighties", but this is just one of those anthemic songs with catchy hooks which stands the test of time, so I was happy to oblige.

Even though it is largely a synthesised song, with no noticable guitar ( in the Soft Cell version in any case ), it does lend itself well to strumming along on acoustic, or rocking out on electric. The Soft Cell veresion is in G minor, I've transcribed it down to E minor, with a Capo on the third fret bringing it back to the original key.

The main verse chords ( relative to Capo ) are just: Em, G, C and G ( with a pronounced double-down-strum on the E minor to get the right effect ). The only variant in the Chorus is at the start, with Em, C, G, Am and A, before repeating the verse chords.

I've posted my interpretation of Tainted Love to my Pop Songs Guitar Chords , at the link below:

Scouting for Girls "This aint a love song" Chords and Lyrics

Back in 2008, I had posted guitar chords and lyrics for Scouting for Girls' "Heartbeat" and "Elvis Ain't Dead" from their debut, self-titled album to Rock guitar chords page on my website ( PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics). They were being hailed at that time as the champions of a new 'Brit-Pop' era, the album reaching #1 in the British charts, and the band receiving a bunch of "BRIT" nominations.

They had been strangely silent ever since, until the release of "Everyone wants to be on TV", their 2nd album, in April 2010. "This ain't a love song" is a great pop-rock song, which was the first single released from the album, and hit the top of the singles charts.

I have worked out a very playable version of the song, suitable for early learners, and for acoustic or electric guitar, and posted it to my rock song chords page, where you'll also find "Heartbeat" and "Elvis Ain't Dead".

The chords are very straightforward, just various combinations of C, G, Am and F

Plan B "She Said" Guitar Chords and Lyrics

I really never thought this day would arrive. I'm transcribing a song which features a hip-hop interlude. Regular readers of this blog ( now picking themselves up from the floor and reaching for the smelling salts ) will know that I am very much *not* a fan of hip-hop - particularly when it spoils a perfectly good song, usually a nice soul ballad with a female vocal.

To be honest, when I first heard Plan B's "She Said" this was exactly what I thought I was hearing. Then I saw the band perform on a TV show, and was amazed that both the silky soulful voice and the "Brit-hip-hop" spoken part were being performed by the same guy - Ben Drew.

Anywaze, the song grew on me - even the rap didn't grate so much, so I've decided it's worth including on my website. "She said" is the second single from "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", a concept album about a British soul singer who finds fame, but ends up in prison for a crime he didn't commit, as portrayed in the video for the song ( below ).

I decided the best location for my chords and lyrics version of the songs was on my Soul, R&B song chords page - you can check it out at the link below:

Ben Kweller "Wasted and Ready" guitar chords and lyrics

I have to give a big 'shout-out' to my two darlin' daughters for always helping out with suggestions for artists and songs to work out and add to this blog and to my chords and lyrics site
I certainly wouldn't have gotten to hear Ben Kweller's music without them.

"Wasted and Ready" is Ben's first single, taken from the debut album "Sha Sha". It's a kind of 'bubblegum rock' song which draws a lot from Weezer, and actually reminded me of Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag" ( another blast from the past! ), although Kweller quotes Nils Lofgren as the primary inspiration for his writing.

It's a really fun song to play, I've chorded it for acoustic, 'though it's actually probably more suited for jamming on electric with bass and drums - in which case you would mainly be using power chords, so just substitute E5 for E, A5 for A, G#5 for G#m etc.

This one is probably not for the early learning guitarist, as the chords will be quite tricky - E, G#m, A, F#m, C and D, and there are very 'rocky' strumming patterns.

I will definitely be checking out Ben's other releases ( His latest album "Changing Horses" was released in 2009, and from what I hear is more laid back and country, but I'm especially looking forward to hearing songs from "Bens", a collaborative EP made with Ben Folds and Ben Lee.

I have posted my version of "Wasted and Ready" in basic chords and lyrics format to my Rock songs chords page, just click on the link below:
