Colbie Caillat ( pronounced like 'ballet' ) is probably the first performer to become famous via the social media. Her MySpace page was a huge success, and she was "No. 1 unsigned singer" for three months. Shortly afterward, she cracked the US charts, hitting #1 with the brilliant "Bubbly", which had had over 22 million plays on her MySpace page.
I posted my version of the chords and Lyrics for Bubbly back in April, and have now worked out my interpretation of her latest single "Realize" which got to #2 in the US charts recently. I still find it strange that she's having virtually no success on this side of the pond?

The Shins - Caring is Creepy chords and lyrics
My first exposure to the Shins, as with quite a few bands, was hearing one of their songs ( New Slang ) on the TV show "Scrubs". I bought the album "Oh Inverted World", but really only gave it a few listens. Walking the pup has proved to be a great way for me to rediscover bands like this, as my random MP3 player list throws up gems that make me take out the player to check the band and song.
This has happened with several Shins songs, so I created a seperate Shins page on my guitar chords website a few weeks ago. I have now worked out my interpretation of "Caring is Creepy", and have added it to my The Shins songs page - check it out at the link below:

Cystic Fibrosis - help if you can
This is an appeal to maybe anyone who has visited my free guitar chords website and found songs they've enjoyed playing on guitar, or to any of my friends who know someone affected by CF. Having spent most of my adult life among musicians, I know they are the most generous, caring and compassionate group of people on the planet.
One of my daughters great friends, Tracie Lawlor, herself a really talented musician, sadly passed away recently from this life-threatening and life-shortening disease. The Republic of Ireland has the highest proportion of Cystic Fibrosis in the world, yet of all of the developed countries ( USA, Britain, France, etc. ) life expectancy is about nine years lower than the others. In Northern Ireland, for example, CF sufferers average life expectancy is in the early Thirties, compared with early Twenties in the Republic of Ireland. This is because of the lack of suitable facilities provided by the Irish Government for CF patients.
A fund has been created in Tracie's memory, with the aim of helping CF sufferers in her home town ( and mine ) of Wexford, Ireland. It would mean a lot to me if you would consider making a donation, however small. All money received to the fund is channeled directly to the aid of CF sufferrers.

Colbie Caillat - Bubbly chords and lyrics
I first 'discovered' Colbie Caillat ( not literally! ) when she sent me an add request on MySpace about 18 months ago. She was an unsigned artist at that time, but listening to her profile songs ( to which Bubbly was added quite early ), it was obvious she was going places. Having been #1 Unsigned singer for an amazing 3 months, Bubbly finally broke the charts in the US, making it all the way to the #1 Spot.

Greenday - Waiting chords and lyrics
Greenday are one of those bands who seem to have always been around, and for learning guitar players, provide a wealth of great and fun songs to have a really good go at.
I've added "Waiting", from the 2001 album "Warning" to my Greenday guitar chords site page. Mainly very playable chords, even for beginners, although the end gets a bit busy....! But definitely one to enjoy learning and playing, and to impress your friends with.

Weezer - Susanne
As I update my website with chords and lyrics to my favourite songs, I try to maintain a balance of old and new songs. This time I've reached back, right back to 1994! My first experience of Weezer was buying a PC with Windoze95, at the birth of the multimedia PC. The OS CD had 3 or 4 music videos, one of which was 'Buddy Holly', from the debit 'Blue' album. Although Suzanne was recorded ( I think as a B-side ) at that time, I only heard it when it was included on a Bonus disc, when the album was re-released in 2004.
25 albums and 22 singles on, they are still one of my top 'feelgood guitar bands', both to listen to, and to busk out my own ( mostly acoustic guitar ) versions of. I've posted my interpretation of the chords and lyrics to "Suzanne" on my Weezer guitar chords page. I hope you remember the song, and will enjoy playing it!

Paul Simon - Father and Daugter
It has been a while since I posted chords for a Paul Simon song. While I've never been a huge fan ( only 7 solo songs + 3 S&G songs on my Paul Simon page ), I have bought most of the albums, without playing them all that often. Since I started to listen to music almost exclusively on my MP3 player, a bunch of songs I hadn't heard in a while are jumping out and reminding me how good they are. "Father and Daughter" is just one of these songs. The guitar chords aren't too tricky for a Paul Simon song, and as a father of two daughters, I can't help but be grabbed by the lyrics. Band of Horses - No-one's Gonna Love you Chords
"No-one's Gonna love you" is the first song I've heard from Seattle band "Band of Horses" (previously "Horses"). I think it was Ben Bridwell's vocal, somewhat reminiscent of another Canadian favourite, Neil Young, which caught my attention.

Foo Fighters - Long Road to Ruin Chords and Lyrics
Dave Grohl and co. are still churning out some of the best rock sounds around. Their new album 'Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace' is another great bunch of punchy songs with catchy riffs and powerful bass lines, accompanied by the vocal excellence of Mr. Grohl himself.

The Shins - Phantom Limb Chords
The Shins ( hailing from Portland, Oregon )have been around for quite a long time, recording their first album in 1997 as "Flake Music" - my first post of one of their songs was "New Slang" from the 2001 album "Oh, Inverted World". I had also previously posted "This Celibate Life" ( ironically enough, on St. Valentine's Day... ), and "Kissing the Lipless".
I've only had a few listens to their 2007 album "Wincing the Night Away", but enough for me to know they will be a band I will follow, and hopefully continue to work out playable versions of their songs for learning guitarists.
So, as I've worked out the chords and lyrics to "Phantom Limb", I've also created a Shins guitar chords page, and moved the older songs from their previous location on my Rock Songs guitar chords page.

Lifehouse - First Time chords and lyrics
This is my first time posting a Lifehouse song, though there may well be more to come...

Alicia Keys - No One Chords and Lyrics

Haven't posted a Magic Numbers song for a while, but I've been listening to them quite a bit lately, and getting to really like their songs. So I've worked out two more and added them to my site. The new songs added are both from the eponymous 2005 "Magic Numbers" album - "Love me like you" and "Wheels on Fire". Great songs to sing, obviously better if you have someone to do the harmonies!

Just to remind you aboutn a cool software tool for musicians I featured on a previous Blog post - SongSurgeon. This program would be a boon to any musician, not just guitar players. Basically a very simple idea - you take a song you own in electronic format - CD, MP3, whatever, and the program allows you to slow it down without changing the pitch. You can mark a section ( e.g. guitar solo ) and loop so that it plays over and over. Simple, but brilliant!
I hate to think of the number of hours I've spent with fingers poisted over the Pause, Play, and 'Back' buttons, just to try to figure out a nifty guitar riff, or make sense of a vocal. Pity no-one came up with this idea years ago!

Colin Hay - Just Don't think I'll ever get over you
Possibly best known as a founding member of Australian band "Men at Work", who had a huge hit in 1981 with "Down Under", Colin Hay has been performing since the late 1970's, with Men at Work, as a solo artist, and with Ringo Starr's 'Seventh All-Starr Band'.
A number of his songs have featured in NBC' series 'Scrubs' and other TV shows.
'Just Don't think I'll ever get over you' featured in the movie 'Garden State' and is included on the film's soundtrack album.
