Guitar Chords Avril Lavigne "Everybody Hurts"

I still think of Avril Lavigne as a relatively new young artist, so was amazed when checking on Wikipedia that her first album "Let Go", which included "Complicated" and "I'm With You" was released in 2002. Yup, nine years ago!

In that time, I have worked out easy chords and lyrics versions to 8 of Avril's songs, including the two mentioned above, with "When You're Gone" being the last one posted, back in 2007, on my Avril Lavigne song chords page.

Haven't heard much from Ms. Lavigne since then, but just heard her new single "Everybody Hurts" on the radio, and it sounds like she's back to top form.

The song is in the key of F#/G#m, with chords being G#m, E, B and F#. As these are quite difficult chords for early learning guitar players, I transposed the song to the key of D/Em, which produces a much more manageable set of chords: Em, C, G and D. Play with a capo on the 4th fret to bring the song back to it's original key.

I have posted my simplified chords and lyrics version of "Everybody Hurts" to my Avril Lavigne Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

Shine on you Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd are not a band whose songs lend themselves to being interpreted for just acoustic guitar and voice - my only other 'Floyd' song on guitarsongs.info is "Wish You Were Here", one of their few songs beloved by buskers worldwide, which is on my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page.

After watching a video on Facebook of Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott perform their version of the song, I decided to give it a go. I listened to a live version of the song by Dave Gilmore ( see below ), pretty much sat in awe thru the 5 min. 25 second instrumental intro, and worked the chords from the start of the first sung verse.

Chords are not the handiest - Gm, F#, Bb, Eb, Dm, Cm, F, C, D, Edim, so you'll be pretty much deploying barre chords most of the way, but it is a slow tempo song, so ideal for anyone who wants to learn some new chords, practice playing songs with lots of barre chords, and at the end of it all, be able to play a classic Pink Floyd rock song on your guitar.

I've added my chords and lyrics version of "Shine On to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

Villagers - "Becoming A Jackal" chords and lyrics

My first attempt at chording a song by Irish Band "Villagers". I first heard this song on "Later with Jools Holland", they sounded to me quite like one of my favourite bands "The Shins".

One thing these bands certainly have in common is producing very melodic songs with basic major and minor chords, but which are really difficult to play - the lyrics not always following the chord sequence in any flowing or rhythmic way

But - I've given it my best shot, and added my chords and lyrics version of the song to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page at Guitarsongs.info.

The chords themselves are straightforward enough - Am, Am7/G, Dadd9, B7, Em, Em7, C, C/B, G, Bm, F and G7. Keeping them flowing, while singing the lyrics, I must admit I found quite difficult, so this one may not suit the early learner.

You can check out my version off "Becoming A Jackal" at the link below:

Belle & Sebastian - I want the world to stop

Belle and Sebastian are one of those 'fleeting' artists I only hear at very irregular intervals.

I had already worked out and posted chords for "If you're feeling Sinister" ( from the 1996 album of the same name, and "Step into my office, baby" from the 2003 album "Dear Catastrophe Waitress". I guess the Glaswegian band's quirky style doesn't sit that well with mainstream radio DJs.

I recently did hear "I want the world to stop" from their 2010 Album "Write about Love", worked out the chords and lyrics, and added them to my Rock Songs Guitar Chords page, along with the previous two. Hmmm... just looking at the gaps in these posts, I guess you can expect the next Belle and Sebastian song from me sometime in 2018!!

The song has a fairly playable bunch of chords: Am, Dm, C, E, A, G, Em and F, has a great melody and some nice harmonies.

You can check out my version off "I want the world to stop" at the link below:
